Okies, I have paid off £403.39, plus saved an additional £7. Not much, but will make additional payments once I have the heavy part of the year over.
Declaring at £410.39. Adding to the total now.

Well the first part of the year has been a bit of a struggle money wise- i'm really not set to meet my £5000 savings target...however hopefully things will improve over the next couple of months and i'll get there! Just managed to declare £310 for March even though i've just paid for annual car insurance!

Well done on some fantastic saving figures everyone x

Randomly had a similar conversation at work with someone today 'asking out of curiosity' as to how much to spend? I always took it that a months salary was a guide as to how much to spend, but I've had conversations with people who have spent from 2 weeks pay to 6 weeks pay. I seem to remember talking to my uncle years ago who when he asked my Aunties dad for permission, his reply was:

'I expect you to spend a months salary, then I know you are serious, it will show you are responsible (at saving etc) it wont disappoint my daughter and remember you are buying something that will be passed down generations and will become a piece of family history long after you are gone...so its worth doing properly'

Clearly we all have a finite amount of money, so just find the best deal you can for the budget that you have and I'm sure your Missus will be chuffed!

Thanks for the response. Taken everything you and boglehead on board big time...

I went ring shopping this weekend to a independent store that was recommended. I will spend approximately 1 months gross salary on the ring... which is 3-4k. I am going to buy the wedding ring at the same time to hopefully get a discount...

What I am going to do is stop my automatic (apart from £50 quid in 3 accounts) a month and instead of tucking money away for now ill let it accumulate and pay bills for the wedding out of it for now.

Anyone know where I can get a deal on a car for the wedding (2 days and doesn't have to be a rolls...) and any recommendations on where I can get a reduced priced honeymoon lol...

This all feels so strange having to spend so much but im treating it as a long term investment... (don't tell the wife to be!)....
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

    Hi Everyone

    May I join in please?

I currently live in a flat and am currently in the process of saving money to move and buy a house (what a long process its turning into!)

What info do I need to provide?

I should mention that my months run from the 16th of each month (get paid on the 16th)

I keep a spreadsheet and log everything that goes out, then whatever's left on the 15th, day before payday, I save.
  • Got paid what I was owed, so added another £260 to my savings - that's it for March. Have updated my sig. Thanks to the people who keep this updated.

can i come to the party a little late.
march. 1450 march minimum, hard to tell how much was saved beyond that as moving money between accounts. i pay myself first before any bills or treats. i always ring fence my savings and then the bills and live on the remainder.

it would be easier to use just one saving account but ive ended but with a maze of multiple accounts, i take the calculator out once a month and total it up.

Had my ISA interest come through so a better month than I expected, but will go down in the next couple with things to pay for. However £1939.77 is my total.

Again, massive well done to everyone for all your efforts this month!
