As per my previous posts above, unfortunately I'm declaring £0.00 for March. But got a plan and good intentions from now onwards to make some good progress on my savings. :)

Having saved £400 this month so far, I was hoping to add another 300 by month's end but this isn't going to happen.

I've booked an inpromptu trip away to France next weekend and it's going to be a couple of hundred £££.

Stand on £465 so far and may have another £50 to chuck over in to my savings but i'll update properly next week!

Bless your heart SF, I can see you have increased my aim on the spreadsheet to £70000, I would love to be able to save that but doubt its possible! £7000 is more like it! x

    Lalman , congrats!

As for the ring, think of it as something you only buy once, and although you don't want to break the bank on it, you don't want to be too cheap, as it stays in the family afterwards. A month salary can get you something quite credible if you go through a private jeweller, with the right stone certification. Based on how flexible you/she is on the 4Cs, you can stretch your money quite far.

I got engaged 2 yrs ago, and the ring at the time felt like a frivolous spend, but seeing the look on her face when i proposed, and seeing it on her hand everyday since then, makes me feel so happy i didn't got too cheap. I wouldn't change a thing.

You don't want to be reminded of that decision for the next 30 years, especially since it sounds like you have a fairly bright and financially secured future.

I appreciate your points and will definitely take it on board. I agree with you, and what is running through my mind at the moment is 'I save 60%+ of my wage, I am happy... and if I can't use some of that/ just not save for a couple of months would it kill me to make my partner happy for as you said... the next 30 years... seems a good investment from that aspect'.

Investment in the sense of happiness for her rather than ROI.

Ill google independent jewellers too... that's a great idea. I am thinking of spending 3-5k on the ring. 18ct gold with one diamond...
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j

Make sure you get a certified stone . GIA is prob the best, but will cost you an extra £150 or so. Well worth it if you drop 3/5k on a rock.

I went for a white gold, which is the same color that the stone, and more solid than platinum to hold a solitaire. I went for a very thin band and a super delicate halo around that solitaire...

    Super nice!

Take your time when you chose it, dont feel pressured by the jeweller.
