Only £523 for me this month, mostly investments, a bit disappointed after a strong start. Signature updated, looking forward to saving a bit more in April
  • Hi everyone, well was not expecting to pot anything this week, but overestimated an outgoing, so £75 added to my savings - I have updated total.

I notice some people have put the percentage of what they have saved - could someone explain in (slow to cotton on) language to me how I do this on a calculator - thanks in advance

Simple explanation .. to work out decimal.... divide small number by big number.

    £4875 saved out of £12000

    Use calculator: 4875 divide by 12000 = 0.40625

Answer is two figures after decimal point..... 40%

    Thank you so much - I can't believe I didn't know that.
  • I love Mondays..... another £125 into the savings pot. Total so far this month is £500. Have updated signature but will update sheet at end of the month. Can't believe the savings are growing and then at the end of the year I will get interest as well !

I think the color change relates to the percentage of your target reached. As you save more, the percentage of your target reached goes up. Savings start in red, then over 20% change to brown and then over 40% change to yellow. This is my understanding.. subject to correction if anyone has other ideas ! Perhaps SF can confirm this.

I had hoped to get a bit of decent saving done this month, but a few unexpected expenses, together with a necessary change of family car have meant that sadly I'm declaring zero pounds this month.

I had hoped to make an improvement on last month's poor tally, but I'm gutted I haven't been able to.

Along with the change of car and a few unexpected things, I have also come to the realisation that I need to stop making nearly as many frivolous purchases.

I too often go with the attitude that 'it's only £5' or 'it's only £10', but they all mount up and put a real hurdle in front of trying to save any decent amounts of money.

So from here, payday next week, I'm going to make a real effort to spend as little as I can that's not needed and finally be able to make some serious inroads into my savings challenge this year! I think I'll try and document my spending a bit more too, and any 'good work' on not spending, I'll put the money into my savings pot and register it here which should help with my discipline. :)
