Would it be too late for me to join? Been thinking about it for some time. If so, I will be counting only savings into my "regular saver waiting for the ISA window to open" account, if you know what I mean, not interest on anything other than that.

If allowed to join, I'll aim for £15,000 as that's the ISA limit. Looking at last year, I saved £13,800, but also had to have some work done on the house, which lowered the total a bit.

As at today's date, if allowed to join, I have saved £1104.57 in this account.

Have just deposited £875 into my medium and long term pot. But due to having to take out £300 to go towards fixing the roof (Bill was £600) and £125 for a five day city break holiday to Lisbon. I am only going to report an increase of £450.

Some months are going to be better than others. If you're finding things difficult try to put something like £1 per day into a box. You won't miss £1 and by the end of the month will have at least £13 added to your savings that you weren't expecting.

Hopefully saving just a tiny amount everyday will help to keep your motivation for you to add some bigger figures when your finances permit.

Thanks for your response. That's very true, some months will be better than others. I managed to get £12 today added to the pot, so it's more than I had when I posted last, albeit it's just a small amount for now. At least it's something added for this month though! :)
  • So far so good; as long as nothing happens in the next week; I'll be adding just over £420 to my total.

I've got £150 cashback to apply for on Friday but I suspect it won't arrive in my account until next month; which will be a nice bump for next month anyway.

I've just started a new 0% purchase cc; I won't count the money I'll be setting aside for it; but it should help boost the amount of interest my savings is getting.

Do you believe in fate? I never did prior to the last couple of days...

When i lost my job i had a call from my FD to tell me... but just prior a recruitment company called me and i had to tell them 'i had to go because my FD is calling'... after the meeting where i got let go... i called them back about that job... had an interview 36 hours later, a second interview 4 days after that and a third interview a couple of days later... i now have that job!

It took me 2 weeks from being laid off to getting another job and it feels great. The company has alot of support and my job will require shadowing for upto a year before i get let go on my own so i feel good in that perspective... they really thought about my development and know my strengths and weaknesses...

Once again, thank you for all the messages and the PM's... if i could, i would buy you all a drink as a thank you as the positivity really did help.

The money isn't as good but i feel happier, i am back up north where i can continue to develop flats and my expenses are significantly lower... it works out that i am 400 net a month worse off which although sounds alot, isn't massive when i was saving 2250-2500 of my salary before hand anyway...

Also, i know this is slightly naughty but i am completing on a second btl still and got the mortgage offer whilst still at my last job... so hopefully that can close the hole from last salary to this....

So my savings shouldn't be interupted!

As a side note, im going to give some money to charity... its my way of thanking whatever may have helped me or just giving back really... Anyone got any suggestions? either reply or PM me please. I prefer smaller charities where 200-500 quid will actually make a difference and doesn't go into an admin budget!
My Goal: From 1st of Jan 2015 to 31st of December 2015 is to save 30000.

    48.78% towards 2015 target.

    105.3% towards 2014 target. :j
  • That is brilliant news Lalman, what a confidence boost! Things have a way of working out, however dark things seem at the time. Not usually with such a speedy resolution though!

And what a lovely idea to make a charity donation and for you to share your good fortune. What goes around comes around; you sound like a good person and I wish you all the best in your new venture Oop North!

  • Hi all, been slowly saving since Jan 1st, but not managed to save as much as I had hoped so far, as I've had a few expenses which took priority. Still. Something is still better than nothing though and I've put away £515 so far.
