Congrats SF - happy for you :-)

Hi, OMG, I am so very sorry that this has come at such an inopportune time, but I am absolutely sure that you will find employment in no time. Our accounts department is looking for staff, but am not sure what type of qualifications they are looking for. I am in London, if you want to PM me.

    Hugs,

Is it too late to join?! I feel inspired :D

I want to try & save at least £1K this year. I know it's not much but I've literally only just started saving, and I'm about to go on maternity leave so my income is going to be reduced. I currently have £243.28 saved so doing well so far but I know the next couple of months will be tough.

So far this year I've sold items on eBay & FB, opened a TSB Classic Plus account for my savings, switched the joint account to Santander 123 which will give us over £100 cash back a month (our mortgage lender is Santander which helps!), and have had over £80 from TCB :T Plus I've switched supermarkets to A**i and am saving a fortune!!!

I'm up for the challenge of saving £1K despite paying for DD to go to nursery 2 days a week (hooray for childcare vouchers!!), being on SMP & having another child to feed & clothe. Plus battling with OH, who isn't very MSE ;)

  • Loopybecs, well done on all of that, you sound like me last year, sorting all the bank accounts out and discovering the joys of cheaper groceries!

Best of luck with the OH, my advice, and the way I put myself off unneeded purchases show him/her the figures you've saved at the end of the month and work out what that would compound to over the next few years (maybe using 3% interest as that's what Santander gives you). The numbers you end with can be staggering. Have a look for compounding calculators on google and have a play around

    Best of luck!

Thanks Hantsman :) I'm really hoping that he'll be on board. He's great on the whole as he doesn't drink, smoke, buy clothes etc his main luxuries are the Sky package, speedy broadband & going to watch the football once a month, which we can afford. But it's the little things like buying snacks & not shopping around that drain the pennies and it's so wasteful. He's also used to being in debt and isn't bothered if he's overdrawn or has a balance on his credit card, which I hate!! But luckily, apart from his car loan (ends in 2 years) and a small balance on his credit card, neither of us are in debt right now.

    2 weeks til payday!!! Hurryyyyyyyy...
