  • Ok, just a quick post to say that I've had some money through I was expecting in January, so my new January total is now £781.64! Not bad considering it was a bit of a tight month!
  • Congratulation Slowyfading! What exciting news! Have just caught up with the thread, its so nice to hear such lovely news!

  • Hi everyone

    Will update it all now
    DDx
    Started again 25th December 2017
    Current tracking - £7,955.84/ £18,282.25 to pay off. (31.12.19)
  • Declaring February now: -£1803.09 due to paying off the balance on the new boiler... so my total for 2015 is now -£709.46. Ouch! Should be back on track in March though, and a friend has just paid me back for the holiday we had in September which will also help.

Anyway, the good news is, I got burgled in December. No it wasn't good news at the time - it wasn't nice at all. However, there is a ray of sunshine amidst the gloom, which is that I didn't need to, or couldn't, replace all of the items which were taken, and so the bulk of the insurance payout, which arrived by cheque this week, has now gone into the savings pot. This comes to just under £2,300 (so I'll just round it up from my current account to be neat). I've also just transferred £250 from the current account into my S&S Isa. Since the rest of my savings for Feb will be the same fixed amount of £625 that comes out of my account every month, that means I can declare for Feb, so total savings for Feb will be £3,175.

The other good news (and this bit really is good news) is that work has given me a pay rise (long awaited) so will be able to increase the amount going into savings shortly.

I've currently just moved the £2,300 into the savings account but will probably transfer some of it into my S&S Isa shortly - that's neither here nor there though in the sense that it is all savings, but just mulling over how much to transfer.

Not meaning to sound like I'm making stupid jokes about getting burgled, it really wasn't nice but I did decide to take a philosophical approach to it and I think that helped.

Just a wee update to say I am up to £5,000 thanks to interest coming in on various accounts and spending very little so far this year. I added up every stray bit of money to get there, so next month I will adding just £500 as I need to pay for other things.

Well done to everyone so far :)

Edit: I haven't contributed as much to the thread as I hoped to, sorry. This year has been a bit rough for me health wise, so just trying to pace what I do. One of the main goals of adding this final £13,000 to my savings is to be able to go part time, so things should get easier then :D
  • I'm very impressed at some of the saving people have managed to do already this month, some very good sums being added to the savings pot, well done!

Unfortunately due to a number of things which have come up this month, I've not managed to add a single penny to my pot this month, but still hopeful I'll be able to add something, even a little, by the end of the month.

When having a tough month saving-wise, it's quite difficult to stay motivated, but I'm determined to add something to the savings this month, even if it isn't as much as I'd like. :)

Some months are going to be better than others. If you're finding things difficult try to put something like £1 per day into a box. You won't miss £1 and by the end of the month will have at least £13 added to your savings that you weren't expecting.

Hopefully saving just a tiny amount everyday will help to keep your motivation for you to add some bigger figures when your finances permit.
