Since my last post I'm afraid things have taken a further turn for the worse with regard to my finances. We've had a quote come in for up to £1500 to have some further roof repairs/maintenance, which wouldn't have been a significant issue on it's own but last night I had a call from our tenant saying they were having boiler issues which resulted in the boiler being deemed unsafe and decommissioned. Therefore we're now engaged in attempts to get a new boiler installed ASAP with estimated costs of around £2000.
I'm not going to abandon this years challenge, but don't anticipate being able to log any savings for a few months while I try to minimise the damage. Technically the money will come out of last years savings, but I intend to count any savings returned to the account in the coming months as repayment of those savings and will then start afresh with this years savings after I'm back to where I started, if that makes any sense?!?!£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000

Hi all!
Almost at the end of the month, but still not quite ready to declare yet. If I do manage to transfer anymore it will be a very small amount, as we have 2 birthdays and our car insurance renewal in the next 2 weeks!
I received a cheque for £636 from Thomson for a flight delay claim for last year, so have been able to save far more than I anticipated this month. I also transferred most of my salary as we generally get by on my husband's wages. So at the moment we have £1619.66 for January! This is the most we have ever saved in one month- this saving business is seriously addictive!
Twiggy- sorry to hear about your set backs. It must be so frustrating, but you definitely have the right attitude by refusing to abandon saving altogether. Your plan also makes perfect sense- hopefully you will be able to start with years savings soonSave £12k in 2015 #182 - £7,812.92/£10,0000 -
Hi SF,
I know I'm a little late but can I join in here too? I'm on the mfw board but we are also trying to finish outside the house. My target for this year is £10000. We started saving at the end of last year and have a total of £3500 so far. Trying to knock 10% off mortgage too so an uphill battle.
Thanks in advance,

Wow, what a difference a week makes.
Kitty's post-op check-up was all fine, so that's the last of the vet bills for now. Time to build the kitty kitty back up for when she's old and frail and is likely to need more medical care.
The income front has hit a slight blip. I'm letting out my house - which I bought when I got divorced - and have new tenants, but the boiler needs replacing, so that shan't earn me anything for a few months. I'm so lucky that I can keep my little house though, as this will stand me in good stead for the future.
In the meantime, buying my friend out my current house with my husband, taking on her share. It's not a house I would ever have invested in myself as it needs so much doing. But this is what I've taken on - a man with a project house. :rotfl:
We're halfway through the transfer process now, and looking into how we can finance her share of the equity and all we need for patching up our crumbling Victorian terrace. We've thought about combining equities and just moving to anew house, but our house would still need repairs to bring it up to a decent sale condition. Might as well just make it a place to love.
Initially, when I joined this thread, my plan was to save up £7K, and pass it on to my hubby, to help clear the debt we are about to take on.
However, it turns out my rating is pretty good, and I can get a loan at a much lower rate than my husband can. To finance the loan at its payback rate over 60 months, I won't need half as much as £7K, but if I stick to this goal. I can pay it back quicker, and then move on to the mortgage.
And you might think it weird of me to be super happy about that, but I'm a control freak and I know I can be shrewd where hubby would be ... his lovely, spontaneous, enthusiastic self.
Provided I can spend no more than the fiver in my purse this week, that's another £18 I can declare, and a cut to my overdraft of £246. So a total of £328 saved this month. :jKeep reading books!
