Although Id feel better about myself if I counted it as savings/investment, I think I agree with you. It doesn't sit right with me, as it wouldnt prevent me from borrowing again in the future.
I should feel bad about borrowing in the first place...
I will leave it out then. Thats what i did last year as well, and i still managed to save a sizable chunk of cash.

Hello everyone..well done for surviving January...thought payday would never come
Managed to save £1,400 this month. It's much more than I'll be able to put away each month now I've got the house but had a little extra saved from the very end of December.
Loads to pay for this year so gotta stick to it! I've even got a seperate pot for xmas 2015 :xmassmile0 -
No 143...having a good day, another £100 so now 973/5000.0

#122 - January 2015 - Saved about £3k
(Edit: Although I'm going to have tax to pay for some of that money when I next do my return so... not exactly sure how that works. I guess at the end of the year I'll take 20% off my total to be fair?)0 -

looking to sign up this year. Sorry its late.
Hoping to save £6000 this year.
going to declare £1350 now for January0 -
Expensive month (broken boiler- no heat etc for a week) so nothing to declare apart from what's gone into my sealed pot.
Bank reconciliation and new budget (YNAB?) will be done tomorrow. Need a frugal February to get started on this.GC Challenge March £55.48/£2000 -

There's a group on here for paying off as much debt as you can in the year which might work well for motivation alongside this group for saving. I used it for 2 years before becoming debt free and being able to join here.
There's also a Mortgage Free in Three (years) group which you could join (although this is the last of the 3 years for the group I'm in) too if it would help. You don't have to be clearing your mortgage in that period, just a goal to reduce it by, e.g. I'm making overpayments on mine and set a goal to reduce by £8k in my first 3 years. I will only have had a mortgage for 3 years later this year, so I wasn't sure what to aim for and that seemed a safe bet and I'm currently set to overshoot my goal.£12k in 2019 #084 £3000/£3000
