As far as I knew, Tinder and POF were all for fun hook ups. We got my friend to use eharmony. She was a bit unsure but shes getting married this November after meeting and falling in love with a guy last year. We're same age as you too.

You are wrong. Saying that Tinder of PoF is just for hook ups is like saying the internet is just used for !!!!!!. Sure, if you look for it you will find it but with all dating sites you just need to focus on what it is you want and filter out the rest.

Sometimes 'intelligent' people who haven't been to university have a bit of a chip on their shoulders about those who did and, to be honest, it's not an attractive quality.

I totally agree. This is something I've seen a few times before.

It's not about earning potential or intelligence... it's about having a higher chance to find people I'm most likely to click with, intellectually.

Is this not a bit of a contradiction?

For the record I'm not against your criteria in a partner. I'm of the belief people can be as picky as they wish when it comes to dating and if an education is your thing then so be it. I only felt that a persons education was not a direct quality you look for, more a cover for what you perceive an education to bring to a person. I was merely curious as to what you imagined this quality to be.

I'm in total agreement that there are intelligent people without a higher education, just as you can meet academically clever people who are less than competent at general life situations.

I would state that in my experience that the percentage of intelligent people I encounter sways far higher towards those who are well educated. More to the point I'd say the number of people I encounter who come across as rather simple minded tend to have a poor academic background.

If someone finds intelligence at their level or better to be something that they find attractive then it doesn't surprise me that they'd be filtering on academic achievement. From the money side of things it's also worth noting that many jobs that require high academic achievers don't actually pay all that well and are often a labour of love/passion for the subject.
  • Ahh Tinder. I like it personally (I am an online dating !!!!!!/"veteran") as you both have to fancy each other to match and therefore be put in contact with one another.... a luxury you don't have on a dating site :-)

POF is a mixed bag. As a girl you get a lot of traffic but this is made up of a lot of 'Hi. How RU' comments which in my opinion are timewasting. I have had a lot of dates from it and a couple of relationships..... I would recommend it...but take it with a big pinch of salt.

I'd love to know where a girl can go to find a genuinely funny bloke.... I had my heartbroken a couple of years ago so am keeping my eyes open....but giving up more and more on online dating/Tinder in the hope of meeting someone in the real world (and yes! "meetup" is the plan of attack for 2015!)

Good luck out there...it's a minefield...
