Boots deliver wrong cooker, we can't use it or they won't change it for correct one

Boots online have delivered the wrong cooker to us this morning and have taken away our old one (which was still working). My wife only realised their mistake when she opened the oven and found the instruction book with the wrong model number on it.
Customer Services were very apologetic and will reorder the correct one but can't deliver for 7 days. "So how do I feed my family in the meantime?" I ask. "Sorry, we can't help you there" says their supervisor. So they made the mistake and now we are without a cooker and they refuse to see the problem. To add insult to injury they said they would refund the £20 delivery charge as a goodwill gesture!
I come up with what I think is a brainwave-- I suggest I get the cooker they wrongly supplied wired up and use that in the meantime. Boots say "if you do that we will deem that you have accepted the cooker"!!
Any advice welcome please--what can we do to feed ourselves (apart from take-aways) and how can I get Boots to take responsibilty for their mistake?

I'm not too sure what your rights are but may be something along the lines of having takeaways (so long as it's nothing too extravagant each day) and calculating the cost over what it would normally be if you bought and cooked the food itself and billing Boots for it. You could try and estimate it now and tell Boots what you intend to do and give them the estimate (which I presume would be much more than the £20 free delivery). Take them to small claims if they refuse, after you get your new cooker, as you gave them a chance to pay that compensation. Not much of a practical suggestion and may end up being more hassle than it's worth.

Boots is just a front , its run by DRL limited, they also run Sainsburys appliances and quite a few others, Boots will earn an affiliate commision.

Depending on if you have one and what type it is, what about using a microwave?

I don't necessarily mean those microwave meals which can be as bad - if not worse - than having takeaways for a week, but using it do heat up 'normal' food.

Hubby and I managed with a basic model ( ie no intergrated oven) for a whole year when we got married so I'm sure that its possible to manage one for a week.

My wife only realised their mistake

Did you wife sign to say that they had delivered the right one or did she just sign for what gave.
The onus is on the customer to ensure what they sign for is what you have ordered.
Whilst some blame is on Boots, you must also take some responsibility for not checking the item that you ordered was what was delivered, thats why you sign for items.
The mistake is on behalf of your wife for signing for the wrong item in the first place

I'm suprised at Boots - I have always found their customer services to be exceptional. Last xmas I ordered an ipod for my OH, when it came, it was bright green (I ordered a black one), took it into the store and they offered a full refund there and then or a swap for a silver one (no black ones left). I swapped and was quite happy at that.

I'm suprised therefore they haven't given you some goodwill gesture - after all, even if your wife didn't check, it was their mistake when all's said and done, and you're left in limbo.

I'd ask for a full refund, and then go buy a cooker from Curry's or wherever. If you don't want that, call Boots customer services and ask to speak to a manager. Good luck.

We spent over £1200 on kitchen appliances from Sainsburys (DRL Limited)

You only get SEVEN days to exchange anything and they want £49.99 to collect it

We tried and failed to exchange after this time but after writing to complain all we got was "TOUGH"!

We won't be using them again - is Tesco any better?
