We usually put the tree up on the 1st but as my nephew is staying this weekend we'll be doing it early. I hate to see an advent calendar in a non-Christmassy room! :)

Probably a week later we'll get a small real tree for the smell and I like to add some holly/ivy around the house and maybe some extra lights.

We usually take everything down on the 27th! I love how clean it all looks afterwards!

  • I will probably put mine up on the 13th as it is DS1's birthday on the 12th so want him to enjoy that first. It comes down as soon after boxing day as I can get away with - certainly before new years eve. I spent the whole year getting excited for Christmas that once it is done - it is DONE. I burn out too quick lol.

No no no. Its all wrong far to early for it to go up.

There is a lady who lives in the top flat at the end of my street, who has already posted her Christmas Cards on Sunday to us and has her windows all decorated Christmassy. I stood shocked on last Friday at her windows only to find on Sunday the Christmas card on the door step. There is being organised and being toooooo earlyyyyyyyy.

Mine go up 28th November. Its a tradition my grandparents started almost 38 years ago, the day I was born. My Nana loved Christmas (I think she honestly believed she was Mrs Claus!).

We lost them both almost 20 years ago, but all of her children and grandchildren carry on her tradition every year.

I was their 1st grandchild, and I am honored to have the whole family continue to put their tree up on my birthday, in memory of my amazing grandparents.

What a lovely story. Nice for you to keep the tradition ongoing.

Walking home tonight, we saw a house with two trees up in the windows, one downstairs and one up! Lol

  • Mine went up on the 15th November!!
It makes the room all cosy and gets up in the mood for christmas shopping. Plus, as I'm going to Winter Wonderland this weekend, it would feel weird if I went there but had nothing christmassy at home

I really think it is up to the individual, there is no wrong or right time to do it. Circumstances dictate. I have a friend coming to stay next week and she is as into Christmas as I am so I will make sure they are up by then and there will be a little bit of Christmas in every room, including the cloakroom and bathroom. I make a lot of stuff myself and like to show it off, lol.

Today I have spent ages writing my cards and putting away all the normal clutter, tidied the bookshelves etc. and will begin to find places to put things over the next few days. My grandchildren visit once a week (which is my main reason for having a tree etc. these days) so I like to prolong it by having it up early.

As for taking it down, I don't think I have ever managed to leave it up until the twelfth night (6th January). I keep it there until New Year is over then can't wait to start preparing for Spring and introducing new flower arrangements/plants etc. and, of course, reintroducing the things I have put away for Christmas.

Horses for courses, as I said, you should do what suits you, I think.
