Yea, and i smoke cigarettes as they used to be good for your health years ago.

If you honestly think the Energy Companies are fitting these for OUR benefit to SAVE us money then you are a VERY naive person.

It's MORE PROFIT for them, watch this space !!!!!

I ve just watched the space on the comp sites for prepay meters, and whos top of the list for price with their smart prepays ?... Ovo..and when they iron out the teething problems with the Liberty gas meter everyone will start fitting them, then the ancient old card/key meters with last century top up methods, will join VHS video and tape cassette... in the bin.
I see struggling unemployed young women with kids with these old prepays paying top dollar while I m 25% cheaper on a credit meter when really they can be paying exactly the same with less metering costs its just crying out for smart prepay and Ovo are brave enough to start fitting them..free
Watch out that you stick to the internet streaming for your TV because they catch you out electronically nowadays if you tune into Sky/Virgin etc..the old detector vans were always a con. My hand delivery of a reminder is only so that you can t defend yourself in court and say that you forgot...and the Beeb do prosecute regulary
  • Those card payment meters are terrible and new SMART could save money, a repeat myself again that they are NOT fitting them for free...

I pay a for a full licence but have a friend who has a TV and he does not pay a TV license as he ONLY watches SKY news/listens to music etc, think they have been on his case since the choice came into place and he just shuts the door in their face and tells them fook off, are they not a private company and they have NO right to enter your property ?

Ovo advertise a free smart meter for the prepays. Its on Ukpower.co.uk for Ovos paperless prepay tariff
your mate needs a licence if he has Sky, only people watching the iplayer, catch up services via internet only,( no aerial or satellite leads plugged in ) are exempt. The BBC have given people an excellent excuse to claim a free licence. Personally I could nt live with watching telly via the internet only and I m sure most people dont really stick to it. ?they ve all got their aerials on the roof. The BBC trap them electronically when they use Sky, Virgin, Talktalk. They have agreements with these to provide info if they request it. Your mate has been lucky so far
We only hand deliver the reminder letter, so they can t say they never received one in the post. Its to fulfill the obligation to remind them to get a licence and to stop it being an excuse in court. No one has right of entry to anyones property without a warrant, and that go s for Capita ( who the BBC use ) and the Police and meter readers.. We can get a warrant tho, and the cost of the warrant is billed to the customers if they re found to be fiddling meters.

What is an IHD, i am refusing to have one fitted after reading up on the potential dangers of them PLUS we are paying for them to be replaced !!!!

Loads of info above and a good template letter.
    ...
I will stick with Analogue meter rather than have a 'microwave' withing 4 feet of my living/sitting area!!!!

Your last comment gives this away as the complete fruitcakery it really is. That's the problem with t'internet - lots of good information, and quite a lot of complete garbage.

If there was a danger from microwaves, then I'd have been fried long ago as my house is absolutely swimming in them.

No, of course not. They're fitting them because people are no longer 'in' to have their meters read regularly.

My Mum is always 'in' because she is 89, but she has signed up to a deal where she gets good prices, provided she reads her own meters every month. Smart Meters would make a lot of sense for her too.

I'm never in and i do as i first stated, just log in online, put my readings in a pay my bill, i'm paperless so its my only option.

I have a TV aerial on my roof but it's not even connected anymore.

The facts are that Smart Meters have been shown to emit up to 190,000 pulses of RF radiation per day. A report issued by the CCST in California showed - using the industry’s own data - that Smart Meters can expose people to 160 times more RF radiation than mobile phones. See here:
    http://www.electrosmogprevention.org/public-health-alert/smart-meters-radiation-exposure-up-to-160-times-more-than-cell-phones-hirsch/

There is nothing stopping an energy company installing a bank of 50 smart meters on the other side of a wall to a baby’s cot.

If people are unclear about why the WHO//IARC saw it fit to upgrade the categorisation of RF radiation from Smart Meters and WiFi to a class 2B carcinogen in 2008, show them this:

    http://stopsmartmeters.org.uk/dr-erica-mallery-blythe-electromagnetic-radiation-health-and-children-2014/

It is a very good and recent presentation on the subject.

Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion, if anyone else wants to take an UNNECESSARY RISK then go ahead !!

radiation is all around, natural, tv, and radio. If you're worried about the 2.4Ghz range, there will be far more passing through your head when your neighbour watches iplayer via their wireless router than the odd pulse bewtween a meter and an ihd.

Traditional meters aren't free either, they get replaced every couple of decades, and customers pay for it indirectly, as they pay for the diesel in the meter readers car, also bad for health.

So just ignore that they are classed as a '2B carcinogen' ?

Even 'Which' have concerns about them, for me it is just not worth the risk and the cost to have one.

have you investigated the risks of air fresheners, mobile phones, dental xrays, chicken, and snowboarding too. You're gonna die of something, boredom and anxiety possibly if you want to lead a risk free life.
