Smart Meter - OVO

  • I switched at the beginning of 2014. To save money I use their on-line only option. In fact if you try to 'phone they recognise your number as belonging to an on-line only customer and won't put you through.

I can't remember if I was 'phoned or written to but agreed to have smart meters fitted in October 2014. The fitter said the readings would not register for two months but to ignore requests to read the meters they would come through automatically. What he didn't say was that I would lose my access on-line. Despite knowing this, the company kept sending me e-mails about updates to my direct debits, apologies for the lack of statements, renewal coming up and to go on-line to get more information, I could not. I had to 'phone the complaint line because I am prevented from calling so called customer services despite having no access on-line. I was informed that I should have been told it would take from 12 to 16 weeks. The operative seemed keen to close the complaint so we agreed that I would try again after Christmas and re-open the complaint if I could still not get on-line.

Inevitably it was still unavailable after Christmas so I called the complaint line again. Within a few days they managed to do something so I got limited on-line access. Many areas of the site were unavailable presumably because they are still trying to integrate the smart meters. Again they were keen to close the complaint and asked why I needed access to the unavailable areas of the site. "Well you sent me an e-mail telling me to review the direct debit and I can't." "Oh, that's just a standard e-mail you can ignore it." "So why do you send it if you know I can't action it?" "Smart meters are new and it is taking longer than we expected to implement them." "Why didn't you test them before inflicting them on unsuspecting customers." "IT is complex and we couldn't foresee all the problems." "Well next time implement new technology on the CEO first and see what focus you get to fix any problems ..."

As of today, my on-line access is unavailable again despite an e-mail about a price drop encouraging me to go on-line to check it out.

    "Customer Service" - I don't think so ...

Is anyones SMART meter showing HISTORY correctly i.e. are the hourly totals showing on correct daily totals and are these transferring correctly to Weekly totals?

Yes, mine seems to be working correctly.

Had the smart meter fitted by OVO over four months ago and have just got the first bill showing the correct meter readings!

I am on dual fuel and the estimated bill on the first screen does not include any of the discounts! I am now checking if they have been correctly applied. You would think the smart meter would do it for you but you still need a spreadsheet to check the final bill!
  • Hi I was more interested in the In House Monitor where mine does not accumulate the 'Hours' usages into 'Days' and in fact have only showed a Mon & Tue regardless to the real days

What do you mean by the 'in House Monitor'?

When Ovo fitted my Smart Meter I was given a Pipit 500 In Home Display Unit which has 'Secure' at the bottom of the unit. Have you got a different one?

No I have the same as you.
I have however had some honesty from OVO who tell me that there is a software problem that they are trying to fix. This stops the Pipit 500 accumulating the daily consumptions into days and weeks

Ditto, I have the Secure branded display which seems to be accumulating OK. Mine was installed 19th December and I'm seeing figures for each week and also for December and January.

It must be only happening to your unit because mine is working correctly as well.

After reading this thread, I suddenly find myself relating to situations and things I thought were only happening to me.

I had a smart meter installed in October - when they offered me, I nearly took their arm off at the chance. Now I wish I had left things as they were.

My online access was also restricted. After some ear bending I got this back, but the information shown on it is useless as it doesn't actually contain up to date readings from the smart meter. I was told the smart meters would be working by December, then early January now early February - sounds like they actually don't know and are just fobbing customers off.

When I had the smart meters installed, no instructions for the smart meter and IHD were left, neither were batteries supplied for the IHD. Rather than use the supplied power adapter, I use a USB port from my computer to supply the IHD with power.

I'd really like to know how to get meter readings from the meter. As my meters are in a really awkward spot, I had hoped that having the smart meters installed would reduce the need to access the meters. Instead I still have to access the meters and fiddle about with buttons trying to guess what my meter reading is.

I can't deny being impressed with their customer service. They've always been polite and helpful with me. But I'm beginning to wonder actually how knowledgeable they are.

SSE (Wales) are offfering me a 'SMART' meter, i have refused as WE pay for the costs of them being fitted and it has been proven that the majority of people have ended up paying more.

That's without the harmful RF microwaves they produce (i don't use even use a microwave).

Found this site VERY informative, i am totally happy having my meter read or me inputting the details on their site so there are no estimated bills.

It scares me that people/hackers WILL have access to your info and influence it etc....

I SAY NO TO THESE BIG BROTHER SCHEMES, the price to have them fitted it astounding and WE will pay for it and not see any reduced fee's, only higher fee's and dangerous RF waves !!!!
