Insults?
What's wrong with being a Manager of a McDonald's? Just to clarify are you now saying if you manage a McDonald's it's something to be ashamed of?
I agree with you, it's certainly better than working in HR.The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Actually working in McDonalds is considered the lowest rung of the employment ladder, that is why they only employ people who hardly speak English and haven't even heard of a shower!0

Nice racial slurs.
At least they got off their !!!!!! and got a job, unlike your IT illiterate "friend".0 -
Work is work, I don't look down on anyone who works. At least they're earning their money and not scrounging.
These foreigners are filling a gap left by our own lazy workshy people who then moan they can't get a job because of them.
Many of these foreigners have a strong work ethic, and don't believe in benefits.0 -
Haven't read the whole thread, but I do wonder about the OPs friend worrying about the security or otherwise of the internet for a job application, but she's perfectly happy to hand out paper CVs for any Tom !!!!!! or Harry to look at, discard in an insecure manner and feels this is more secure!Make £2025 in 2025

OK I haven't read the entire thread so apologies if I'm repeating things.
I find it annoying to fill out specific application forms for different jobs, but completely understand why they do it. Handing over a CV or clicking "quick apply" takes absolutely no effort whatsoever. Filling in a specific application form does take effort though, and it's the first step of 'weeding out' the candidates who aren't really that bothered about the job anyway and will just click on anything.
I remember posting an advert for an admin assistant to work under me, and received 300 applications in the first day the advert went up. I had to whittle them down somehow, so the second I saw a spelling mistake on the CV or a 'generic' message from the site and not a personalised letter of application with the email the CV went straight in the bin/deleted folder.
A lot of people want jobs these days. Prove you are the one they want by jumping through the hoops as requested and taking time and care with your applications.
If you start causing a fuss this soon into the application process about how they want you to do it they will just assume you'll cause a fuss every time they ask you to do something, and any hope of getting the job goes straight out of the window.0 -

I don't know if it's discrimination but certainly many large companies do not accept paper cv's anymore and only accept online applications. Some of the larger retailers for example have axed all their hr depts in their stores and so all the applications are checked by a central team. Vacancies are posted daily on the website. The central team will see who fits the store criteria and then invite them for interview at their local branch where they will be interviewed by members of the management team. When all the interview slots are full the vacancy is closed. That's how it works where I am and they will not accept a paper cv, you have to apply for vacancies online as they become available.
Is there anybody who can help your mum with her online applications? The only other thing I can suggest is to apply to smaller businesses who don't do online job applications.0
