My parents have a Hitachi Microwave that is at least 25 years old (possibly a bit more) and still going strong. It's the first one they bought and I'm so impressed that it works. I'm on my third microwave in the last 10 years!

They don't make the magnetrons as robust as the old ones. :(

I have a model of the same era, which my neighbour threw out about 12 years ago. It's huge, so I use it to sterilise soil when making potting compost. The turntable never receives less than a bucket-load of soil each time, yet it just trundles around without complaint.

I shall buy another as a spare, if I ever see one in the local recycling shop.

Werented a flat a few years ago built in the Sixties, with all the mod cons then, best design furniture and things like light fittings. Everything bar the washing machine was original. It was great fun being a sixties housewife for a while.

We have two identical stereos, one from dh's household , one from mine both bought in 1992 when we were 13 ( his was for something important and he found it incredible and meaningful we had the same stereo bought in the same year)

Until very recently we had two tvs older than that but they kicked the bucket ( natural causes, we don't upgrade things like that for the sake of it).

    There must be more.

I have my grandmothers kitchenaid, it must be at least 70 years as she bought it second hand when she was in her early twenties.

Our rice cooker must be 17 as it was a moving out gift.

Freezer 18 years, only just about to get rid cos its running too often, a sure sign its about to quit.
Dryer err about 22 years, still going but gave to someone last year as they needed one and I wanted bigger one.
Heating system original to house so around 35 years.
As someone mentioned ironing board ( not an appliance agreed) mine is over 60 years. In fact could be much older. Its made of wood and is far too low for me to use if I ever ironed!!!
OHs clock radio, given to him around 30 years ago. He made me get rid of my ancient Christmas lights last year, otherwise they would be about 37 years. He said they were dangerous?

My hubby bought me a radio/cassette when we bought our first house. We did the house up before we married and moved in this was 1968. He's still got the radio and uses it in his workshop now.

I'll have to go and check which make it is.

The other is a fridge/freezer that's about 24 years old (Goldstar Fresca).

It's a Ferguson with Dolby sound
  • We have a kenwood electric hand mixer bought as a wedding present in 1972. Still going strong.

It must have been one of the very first Dolby-equipped machines, as that only became available to the mass-market in 1968 .
  • Sandwich toaster bought in 1987 and used several times a week. Electric carving knife from 1989 and hand mixer which I was given second hand over 20 years ago.
