December 2014 Grocery Challenge

I have spent £61.53 this week, including a whole gammon for Boxing Day, when I will have a houseful of visitors to feed. This was a special offer at the local butchers for £25. He says it will be absolutely fine in the fridge till then, and his next batch in will be £40 each, so a good saving
This means that I have spent £241.47 since 22 November, and I have £208.53 to last till Boxing Day when my personal December challenge will end. This will need to cover most of the Christmas food, as I haven't bought much of it yet. However, I have a HM Xmas pudding and mincemeat, and am looking at meat and veg for Xmas day, veg for Boxing Day (lots of visitors both days) and a few treats, plus the usual milk, butter etc.
Should be do-able easily if I plan and don't panic and buy loads at the last minute :eek:0 -
Nice YS haul there Smoosh.
Dawn - you may not want to do this but would you consider getting people to all bring a dish of some kind? Would help your budget I'm sure. And people like to bring things." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Caterina - wishing you a lovely Christmas and hope that in the new year you are back all raring to go with things sorted.
Have spent £41.65 since last update which included a large whole salmon, sausage and bacon for the pigs in blankets, pickles (which have had to hide from DH) and a few more Christmassy bits.
Tonight we had a very simple meal of chips, egg and bread and butter.
I aim to buy a few items this weekend and take them to our local food bank on Wednesday when it is open and if for some reason I can't get there it will go to our local church on Saturday which collect. It must be awful to be hungry at any time and thankfully our family have never been in that situation. We may have struggled at times but never to that extent. Also in memory of our daughter we have brought a few thermal socks and hats for those who are homeless and taken then to the salvation army. I know for certain that I could not survive for more than one night on the streets and in weather a lot better than what we are having at the moment.MARCH £62.38/2500 -

bmma. Lovely to hear of unfortunate cats finding a loving home like yours:T. My current cat was a tiny feral kitten (about 8 weeks old according to the vet) who strayed from one of the farm colonies locally and was living rough under our shed. He was so undernourished, wet and bedraggled, it had been a damp and cold few weeks. We used to leave food for him but he was so scared it took us about 3 days to catch him. He emerged to eat but kept darting back to safety under the shed whenever we approached and there was no space there to reach under and grab him:eek:.
Borrowed a trap from a small local cat rescue charity and managed to trap him. We've had him 6 years now. He turned up round about the time Lewis Hamilton was winning his first World Championship (I'm a big Formula 1 fan:o) so I named him Lewis. He is the most loving of cats, a joy to own. The vet said we caught him just in time as far as really domesticating him went. Older ferals hardly ever lose their 'wild' streak.0
