Any woman here with a DH who can be trusted with a food budget, put your hand up! I bet there aren't many!
It seems to me that our DHs, faced with a domestic budget, turn into toddlers, and when scolded and reminded of it, go into sulky teen mode.
Hahaha Caterina absolutley, toddlers and teenagers!!! Love it :rotfl:
Now my hubby is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but he wouldn't dare not fall into line with the grocery budget.
He has a few food intolerances I have to cater for and he knows how much time I spend planning and cooking so he doesn't miss out and to keep it all in budget!!Love people use things. The opposite never works.0

My recipe is totally different !!
Lynne's cheese, onion and potatoes bake
Very thinly slice some potato (I scrub and leave skins on)
Peel and very thinly slice one sweet potato
Peel and very thinly slice 1/2 medium onion
Thinly slice some cheddar cheese and grate a bit as well
Grease with a little butter a glass ovenproof dish.
Place layer of slightly overlapping potato slices in bottom of dish.
Salt and pepper to your taste
Sprinkle over half of thin sliced onion.
Place third of cheese over onion
Cover with a layer of slightly overlapping sweet potato
 Pepper if you like it
Sprinkle over other half of onion
Put another third of cheese over onion
Place final layer of overlapping potato slices
Salt and pepper to your taste
Sprinkle over a thin layer of grated cheese
Push it all down gently to flatten
Slowly add some milk (down the edges) until about third up sides.
Cover dish with a foil lid
Bake at 180 for about 90 minutes, check with a knife that potatoes cooked and then uncover for about 10 mins to brown off.
Glad it helpedIt has never occurred to me ever to cook a beef joint then freeze it in slices in gravy. It is just the most simplest thing
:rotfl: :rotfl: I totally agree, and funnily enough take about the same amount of time to train. I've had mine for just over 19 years and he's just about there :laugh:Any woman here with a DH who can be trusted with a food budget, put your hand up! I bet there aren't many!

Good morning, everybody. I've only been lurking for almost a week as unwell and yesterday we were one of the few households in Britain you can see on the BBC lightning map - it hit a power pole outside our house!
Back now and I have to try to remember what I spend at theAsian shops in Big Town on groceries on Sunday. 2 NSDs since but yesterday had to get some last items off ebay for Chrismas and I actually remembered to use my Nectar points, I impressed myself, lol.First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, and then you win - Gandhi0

            Morning Everyone
Having a few days off work to look after my youngest son as he was in hospital yesterday having some teeth out.
So plenty of time to make stuff from scratch.
Emptying the freezer slowly, so that I can refill it in January when we get back from Mums.
Today I took some bacon and sausages out of the freezer and having a fry up for dinner tonight.
Hoping to do some baking with my son today if he is up to it.
Am planning as many NSDs as I possibly can in between now and when I get to my mums (next Sunday). I am not doing a weekly shop this Friday, as I am aiming to eat what we already have.
Does anyone have a good biscuit or other 'treat' recipe using dried fruit, as I have loads to use up? I also need any suggestions for anything to bake, I have the following ingredients:
 Flour (Buckwheat, plain, SR, grainy)
 Sugar (caster and granulated)
 Icing Sugar
 Cocoa Powder
 Nuts
 Seeds (pumpkin and sunflower)
 Eggs
The only thing I don't have is butter. I will go and buy some if I need to, but is it possible to make biscuits etc without butter?0

You can make a tea loaf to use up the dried fruit. Easy and delicious. I don't think you can make butter free pastry as it is pretty much just butter isn't it apart from flour and a little sugar for sweet pastry." Your vibe attracts your tribe":D

Don't think it is possible to make biscuits without butter but how about pancakes?
