It's at the brides mum and dad's house and I really think so. The invite says:

    Dear Buzzy,

You are invited to Friend's bridal shower on date. We will have an afternoon of cake, games and present opening.

I hope you will be able to join us.

    I would decline :D

I would think it's like a hen do. If it was someone I was close to I'd go along - i like cake!

Sounds dreadful. Save your money, buy your own cake!

    I am washing my hair?

    Sounds positively dreadful.

I agree with the above trains of thought - how many presents do a couple getting hitched need, engagement presents, wedding presents and now bridal showers...

The hen party is a night out in the city which is much less appealing than the idea of tea and cake. The present would be cheaper than the cost of the hen..... am I cheeky to even think down this route?

I can't imagine I'd want to throw one or organise one - seems a bit too American and mercenary for me. However, I think there is a place for a kind of daytime hen party without the booze and unseemly themes, where maiden aunts, grannies, young nieces and pregnant friends etc can have a bit of a get-together with the bride-to-be with tea, cakes etc. Novelty presents like the wedding cakes made from towels, blinged up rolling pins, and artsy crafty stuff done with wooden spoons and dishcloths (as per Pinterest:D) would seem fun, suitable pressies to take along if wished.

Any invitation which stated "present-opening" was to be one of the activities would deffo be one to avoid imo....how cheeky and entitled does it sound?

Massively, I know it's accepted as the norm in the US, but we aren't in the US!

Could the present opening on the invite mean wedding present opening and not Bridal Shower presents?

Is this a new variation on Present showing?
