Bridal showers

Ok, so it's finally happened, I've been invited to some of those 'bridal shower' do das.

I didn't know we did them here, is the purpose to 'shower' the bride with gifts because I'm uncomfortable with that.

Has anyone been to one?

According to Google, yes that is the purpose.

I can't offer any tips as I have (thankfully) not been to one. I've had the pleasure of a baby shower though and they are bad enough.

Surely it's just a sober-ish hen do with presents? It's a bit lost on me.

Can you become unexepctedly poorly (and contagious, really contagious) if you don't fancy going? I'm sure there will be an organiser who will let you know what you need to do/bring if you do go.

    Good luck OP! :)

Awful American import. I would take something cheap and cheerful - just how many presents does a couple going to get married need?? Engagement, showers, wedding gifts, and then there's the baby showers....

I don't like stuff like this either, and will do anything to get out of it!

Like someone said above ^^^ make some excuse: say you're poorly the day before...
Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

    You're not singing anymore........ You're not singing any-more! :D
  • Is a bridal shower an alternative to a hen night or do people have both?
It seems ridiculous for a bride to expect people to go to her hen do, go to the wedding, but new outfits and pay for transport, buy a wedding gift and now get a gift for a bridal shower too!

There's a hen party too. There was an engagement party too. Apparently you are supposed to take things specifically for the bride like bath stuff or clothes. Why!?

Baby showers are just as bad, if not worse.
  • If they've had an engagement party and they're having a hen party then I really don't see the need to have a 'Bridal Shower' as well.....I actually find it quite greedy myself.

Where is this bridal shower being held? Is it at the bride's, for a glass of wine and chill, bit of an informal get together for close friends? Do you really have to turn up bearing gifts? Bit grasping IMO.

It's at the brides mum and dad's house and I really think so. The invite says:

    Dear Buzzy,

You are invited to Friend's bridal shower on date. We will have an afternoon of cake, games and present opening.

I hope you will be able to join us.
