Should I use Hermes?

I sell on Ebay and I have been advised by a friend to use Hermes. Can anyone tell me if they are good or not, or should I go to someone else?

Many thanks and hope you can help.

There are mixed reviews about them, personally I am very happy with them but know that many of the items i send would not be covered as they do exclude quite a lot of things.

Most of my items arrive quickly and show as delivered online should i have any issues with paypal or ebay.

I've had a few issues to do with tracking not being updated but no problems in terms of the actual delivery and packages having arrived, no packages have arrived damaged.

Hermes in my area is excellent too.

Thanks for your reply. I have had a look at DPD, are they good as well please?

If the item is under 1kg and you drop it off then it is 2p cheaper than Royal Mail Small Parcels 2nd Class and you get full tracking which Royal Mail do not provide at that price. Collection is just 20p extra per parcel.

Sending it by My Hermes takes away the claims for non-delivery as it is fully tracked. However I would be cautious with anything that can be damaged. We wrap anything even vaguely breakable to the point it can be dropped 10 feet without breaking.

Personally we send nearly everything by My Hermes. The only things we do not send is anything which can go as a large letter or if customers take the option of paying extra for Royal Mail. We also pay the extra 20p per parcel to have them collected so no queuing in post offices. If you regularly send parcels then you will get to know your local courier. He is happy to come to us at a fixed time everyday so we can be in for him.

If you are worried about bad reviews of them, just Google any courier company and there will be a host of horror stories.

I've only ever used MyHermes and Collect plus as I prefer to drop my parcels off at my own convenience rather than wait in for them to be collected.

I have had great service from MyHermes but terrible service from Collect plus

I use my Hermes and leave my parcels outside in my safe place . I don't even have to be in when they call
  • I will be upgrading to a business account next month and decided to try hermes out as its fancially better and easier for me to use them.

I sold 4 personal items so sent them via hermes. 2 parcels were delivered to the buyers 2 days after I droped them off. Very happy. The other 2 items however have no tracking since they were picked up by the courier and have not been delivered yet, it has been 7 days. So not impressed. Have emailed hermes and they said they will look in to it and get back to me, I've had to apologise and inform the buyers.

My first experience hasn't been so good as half the items I have sent haven't arrived after 7 days and have no idea if they will actually arrive.

I will try them out a few more times before I commit to using them for selling items on my business account.

My advice would be to go for it. Maybe set the postage on a couple of items using Hermes and see how it goes. In my first experience it has been and hit and miss.

I would not have informed the buyers. I use Myhermes 5-20 per week and have noticed that the tracking can be late to update. I have been left glowing feedback for an item but the tracking has not updated to delivered till 4 days later.

The 2 buyers had contacted me as the items hadn't arrived yet and it was past the delivery estimate

More or less as good as anyone else in my own experience.

The downside is that you are relying on the integrity of the self employed couriers at either end, most are great, one or two just don't deserve the work.

Upside is that your local courier can be very helpful with pickup's - using a safe place if you are busy or out. I have the mobile number of ours, which can be useful too.

I've had the odd claim for non delivery, it takes a little while and it has worked out ok.

Linking your Hermes account with ebay could be a good move, it is really easy to pull your orders in, process and print them.
