Unfortunately you get what you pay for. I found this out after waiting from 2am to 6am for a tow home.

Since they were taken over by a private equity firm the service has gone downhill and they use outside contractors at night time.

Personally, I would never use the AA again, its just not worth the hassle. Your mileage may vary.

You guys are missing a HUGE trick with the AA. The cheapest cover only covers you if you are more than half a mile from home. This is because most cars break down in this location, especially in cold weather. SO, simply register at a parents/grandma's/friends house, and if you break down outside where you live then you are classed as away from your home base and obviously there as you are visiting someone!

Not only dishonest, Timbotambo but would potentially invalidate your policy, leaving you both completely uncovered if you break down anywhere, and potentially sued for fraud by the AA.

Under FSA rules we are entitled to make a charge for period we have been providing cover and for the costs in producing your documentation and membership card etc.

How soon after joining are the documents and card produced?

If someone joins and cancels within a very short time period are they charged £14 regardless whether the documents and card have been produced?

If someone joins and cancels and they are charged £14 are they entitled to still receive their card and documents - as that is what they have been charged for?

How does the £14 break down into covering the costs of the period you have been providing cover and the costs in producing the documentation and membership card?

Why is the AA wasting resources producing paper documents for everyone?

The redemption of your £25 from Quidco, or any other cashback site, is an matter between the customer and that site. The AA has no involvement in that relationship. Any problems with with the technical process or collection of your cashback needs to be taken up with Quidco.

The AA is chosing to do business with these sites acting as affiliates. People are becoming customers of the AA through these sites - you will be hoping to charge them the full rate on renewal - unlikely any MSE would bother staying with you as a continuing customer. You have no problem taking peoples cash but seem too quick to wash your hands of problems caused by companies you chose to do business with - shows your true nature. Nevermind.

Just because you are entitled to doesn't mean you have to in every case - corporate numb skull attitude. Looks like Bootman phoned first thing in the morning to cancel joining the night before. £14 for nothing - 8p for a days cover at most. Doesn't make the the AA look like a good company.

The RAC don't appear to charge for cancelling within 14 days ...

    "Your Right to Cancel
    1. You are entitled to cancel your membership up to 14 working days following the date of, your
membership commencement (or renewal) date, or the date you receive your Terms of Membership
    booklet, whichever happens later.
    2. If you have not made a claim within the first 14 days we will refund the cost of your membership.
    3. If you use the service within the first 14 days and decide to cancel, you will not be eligible for any refund.
    4. If you cancel the membership after 14 days, no refund or credit will be applied.
    5. If you do not pay for your membership promptly, we will cancel your membership."

Hi, my first post. Been lurking and reading around the various articles, all very useful, thanks Martin!

Just joined Topcashback to benefit from this offer, and went through with it all, but to my surprise, and slightly worryingly, at the last page on the AA site, after I entered my payment details and clicked Submit, instead of the expected page thanking me for my purchase, blah, blah, I simply got returned to the AA home page. No confirmation that my purchase has gone through.

I'm hoping this is ok, or is it not...?

    Thanks!

Ahem... sorry guys, can anyone advise? I have a feeling something went wrong - no email confirmation, nothing, and topcashback site isn't showing anything yet either, under My Account? How can I be sure? I don't want to apply twice!

Quote "We have been informed that this retailer applies a de-duping process, which may cause transactions to become rejected. We have also been informed that there is likley to be little or no progress chasing missing commisions from this retailer, by any cash back site" Bought the AA cover yesterday. Have checked the Topcashback site this morning, and it is showing my £25 as pending. However if you click on this amount for details, it is now advising you, that the AA may not honour this cashback! And this is out of there hands. To cancel or not is the question? Anyone got any ideas??

What in the name of all that's holy is a 'de-duping' process? Sounds to me like a 'wriggle-out' clause...

Anyway, mine's showing as tracked on Quidco.

Quidco have cashback offers for RAC & Greenflag as well.

RAC cover can start from £8 with the cash back, don't know about Greenflag as you have to fill in a form to get a quote.
