Hi, my first post. Been lurking and reading around the various articles, all very useful, thanks Martin!

Just joined Topcashback to benefit from this offer, and went through with it all, but to my surprise, and slightly worryingly, at the last page on the AA site, after I entered my payment details and clicked Submit, instead of the expected page thanking me for my purchase, blah, blah, I simply got returned to the AA home page. No confirmation that my purchase has gone through.

I'm hoping this is ok, or is it not...?

    Thanks!

just like to to everyone..i signed up last wekk to the AA through quidco on the 29.99 option..and about 6 or 7 hours later my £25 tracked through quidco....so i joined the aa for 4.99....bargain..says payment date september
  • Everyone seems excited to get cover for under a fiver. But do they come when you want them?
Their recent advert shows that the entire team of AA men are attending a single car in the Highlands!
A lady on her own in Newbury (only a few miles from Basingstoke HQ) wrote that she'd waited over 8 hours before anyone came to her rescue!
I need some assurance that they are not just a rip-off before risking my money to AA!!!

I needed them twice in the last year once on the side of the moterway with a tyre blowout (car does not come with spare). Wait 3 hours in the rain, nice when its not safe to sit in the car!

second time a couple a weeks ago when my turbo went and again 3 hour wait.

There was a time they boasted about an average 30min wait!

    The terms and conditions say

The following refund policy will apply for Members cancelling within the cooling-off period:
    1. a) if the Member joined already requiring assistance, the Member will receive a full refund of any premium paid less the AA's charges for assistance provided. The minimum charge for this assistance is £90, which excludes any additional recovery charges paid for excess mileage (see under 'Relay', 'what is not covered').
    2. b) if the Member did not join already requiring assistance, the Member will receive a full refund of the premium paid less a pro rata charge for the period of cover and the AA's administration charge.
I really don't know if I have a leg to stand on for not being charged £14 for something I canceled within 9 hours of taking out.

Should it not state £14 in their terms and conditions. Are they allowed to leave it as an open charge?

Bootman…Unfortunately it sounds as if the Office of Fair Trading were not aware that Breakdown Assistance is actually classed as a general insurance product and as such it’s selling is governed by the rules of the Financial Service Authority (FSA). Under FSA rules we are entitled to make a charge for period we have been providing cover and for the costs in producing your documentation and membership card etc.

    Regards
    Steve

It does say on the last sentence about a pro rata charge for the period and the AAs administration charge. Looks like they therefore charge £14 for their admin charge, which is pretty standard.

What happens if I'm already a member of the AA and am up for renewal?

Can I just cancel my renewal, wait a few days after my membership has run out, and then sign up again as a new member? Or will the AA remember me and say no...
Myself and Mrs Baker did exactly that last year. Our memberships expire in a couple of weeks so we're going to do it again.

I can’t take advantage of this offer as I took out life membership some 43 years ago for £52.50. Best investment I ever made & they have added Home Start & Relay with no extra charge. I can also have my wife & children (living at home) on it.

I don’t know how much life membership is now, but if you are young it may be worth looking into.

Everyone try and remember that Quidco is not guaranteed. I did this with the AA in January (£10 deal at the time) and after waiting 4 months it was declined, I appealed and it was again declined.

I'm just glad I've had my money's worth (bad year for my cars unfortunately 3 breakdowns!). It may have been a problem as I ordered twice in one night, once for me and once for the missus.

Anyway it told me that the reason it was declined is that they thought another referral had been paid instead even though I closed everything prior to going through quidco.

As I say don't assume its guaranteed.

The nectar offer hasn't been pulled - it's always been there!!

If you go to the link below, you can enter your policy number if you have joined within the last 28 days, and have the points credited to your nectar account. Remember, you can only do this after you have purchased the cover and have a policy number.

I think the code was NB01 but Martin has taken it down now. So you can have both
