You should come to the petrol station I work at...

It's only been open since April and is owned by one of the big 4 supermarket so is clean & fresh.

You never wait more than a couple of seconds to be authorized unless we can't see what you're filling up.

Always at least 3-8 staff in at a time as it's technically classed as a convenience store with a petrol station attached so you can get a decent amount of shopping there too.

Although, as it's opposite the school try to avoid before & after school!

I once filled the bike up at an Esso (wearing my helmet), walked into the shop to pay and the guy at the tills asked me to take my helmet off, I said no at which point he started stuttering something about his safety and not serving me until I did. I pointed out I was offering to pay therefore clearly not doing anything untoward. He eventually took payment but wasn't happy about me challenging his little power trip.

I can understand why the Esso guy was scared. I would have been. I certainly don't think that he was on a "power trip" at all; he probably genuinely thought that you were about to pull out a sawn-off shotgun and demand the contents of his till.

Quite apart from being rude, did it not occur to you that it's not advisable to wear your helmet into the shop? Would you wear it whilst walking around a supermarket? If so, try wearing it in a branch of your bank and see how positively they respond to you there. It's the same principle.
  • There are some petrol places which exist to take advantage of the imprudent motorist, even not including service stations which I stick in Dante's third circle of Hell without a pause to consider.

However, some supermarket places are OK and a few are downright pleasant. Says she, thinking fondly of the local Sainburys, whose staff not only sort me nectar points, whatever school vouchers are on and currently delightfully cheap fuel but also manage to smile as they do so.

    Try other places?

My Sainsburys one is great too. Lovely staff and they remember to ask after my dog each time as well!

The best one I've used though is a Shell garage, down in Devon, where you come off the A38 at Ashburton. Unfailingly polite and there is a bowl of 2p and 1p pieces for when you accidentally go over the round figure by a few pence. Doesn't matter if the person in the shop is young or old, white-skinned or not - I've never experienced anything other than outstanding customer service in that one. :)

A few things that annoy me with petrol stations
. They say the pump hose can reach the furthest side of the car if you park at a pump to the right and your car's fuel cap on the left. They don't

. Supermarket petrol stations' PS shops are like mini supermarkets. Just sell the basics like sweets, bottles of pop and today's papers. Anything else, customer needs to go to its bigger brother. I have been stuck behind someone as she bought ready meals, bread, cheese etc from a petrol station
    .
. Unable to drive away after paying for fuel as either you are in the middle pump and the vehicle to the side is too wide to let you drive in the gap. Or you are in the back pump and would like to reverse do can pull out at an angle, but the burk behind has parked you touching your bumper.

. Customers that don't remember what pump number they are using. I had this one before with the customer in front of me saying its the pump with the silver Golf. At that particular occasion, there were 3 silver Golfs. How thick do you need to be not able to remember a number under 36? 36 is the largest number of pumps I have seen at a filling station.

I have tried pay at pump at two Tescos and it refused payment on my card and fine in the kiosk. Any idea why?

I only get scared at Shell stations, you know the ones that serve halal petrol and sandwiches, where rabid dogs roam around, but that because there's always a mad woman and her elderly mother shouting at the attendant because his card machine is broken:rotfl:

Never had a pump hose that didn't pull out far enough to reach the other side, what on earth are you driving?
    It's someone else's fault.
