No, you're just peculiar
They do what they are supposed to do, sell petrol, they're not there to make you feel good in the process.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
haha I've got a motorbike and they seem to refuse to activate pumps before I remove the helmet. Comical really, especially since my tank can hold about 10 quid maximum!
I once filled the bike up at an Esso (wearing my helmet), walked into the shop to pay and the guy at the tills asked me to take my helmet off, I said no at which point he started stuttering something about his safety and not serving me until I did. I pointed out I was offering to pay therefore clearly not doing anything untoward. He eventually took payment but wasn't happy about me challenging his little power trip.0 -
I'm not sure what sort of atmosphere you find in petrol stations?
I really like my local sainsburys one - it's the cheapest in the area, staff are really friendly, and there's free air and water. You probably just need to find a new petrol station.0 -
Life's too short to worry about these things. Not sure I'd like to work in one though.0

Seems an odd thing to have a whinge about, but each to their own!0

The pumps are either so slow, the cashier takes ages to authorise your pump or it's just a weird atmosphere in there.
If you had ever worked in one you would understand.
A lot are run on a "commission operator" basis. Someone contracts with a company to sell fuel on the company's behalf. For this they are paid a commission. Everything they sell in the shop is bought by and sold for the operator.
Most operators are sole traders so to save money they work all the hours god sends. Most staff work on their own with no break because that's what has to be done. I, myself, have worked for a petrol station company for nearly 5 years. When I worked at site I was regularly working on my own. So that kind of depressive isolation is commonplace amongst people who work in garages.
And, of course, being barracked every day about why fuel is so expensive or why a can of coke is 99p or why there are no gloves at a certain pump adds to it.0 -
With me, it is not as much the petrol station which winds me up, it is the relationship my car has with the diesel pump!
If I go to Sainsbury's to fill up, I cannot top the tank up to the brim, as the cut out keeps kicking in, meaning that I end up with 3/4 tank max.
If I go to Tesco, I can fill the tank up to the brim, no probs. No stopping, no jerking of the pipe, just plain sailing.
Must be something to do with the pressure. Either that or a VW Passat has a weird shaped tank.0
