I saw a piece on TV at the weekend where a labour and Tory MP were walking the streets of Rochester. An elderly fellow said he was going to vote UKIP because they were going to stop immigration and send 'em all back. The two MP's asked how this would happen but the old fellow didn't know but was sure it would. He'd not thought it through as deeply as you but it's a fairly simple, well tried, formula.
Baby steps - just take one blame figure at a time.
Start easy with benefit & NHS tourists and just keep ramping it up until people are putting through the windows of people in possession of thick lips and an offensive wife.
Who are they going to complain to? The police? The European Court of Human Rights?0 -

at the very least racism isn't its raison d'etre.
it never particularly targeted any of the mill towns, the obvious place you'd aim for if you were looking to attract plain old **** bashers, as the BNP did with a relative degree of success a few years ago.
ukip's main efforts have been in areas that were historically tory voting but, how can i put it, not especially wealthy or sophisticated.
the south west, east of england, bits of the provincial south east. not, in the main, places with loads of immigrants. but always majoring on the the grey vote.
I'm not saying all UKIP members are racists BTW. I am saying that in that core harking back to earlier times there will be a substantial number that think Britain was better whiter. They don't want any non-Brits here (Aussies, Irish builders and the odd tourist excepted) because they simply don't like them.
Those people that used to put up signs saying 'No Blacks, No Dogs' haven't had some Damascene conversion.0 -
regarding eastern European workers they work harder than british workers, when I started my construction company coming from a professional career I thought that statement was rubbish. I am British I am hard working, I am sure I can find hard working british peopleto work for me.
How wrong I was! 90% of my staff are now eastern european because they want to work, they don't moan about staying away in hotels for weeks, they don't lie on there time sheets, they don't expect to finish work at 2pm every wednesday because there son plays football then, the most common and annoying attitude from british workers is 'thats not my job' etc etc etc.
This is not unskilled work like many people believe, construction is a skilled job and british workers are not prepared to learn more than one still. Where as the eastern europeans and willing to learn and diversify.
So I think if we had to rely on british workers for all of our services, we would be f****d!
The problem is not with 'greedy companies' the problem is with lazy people and the welfare state created by the previous government."talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish" - Euripides0 -
Maybe we're just not willing to pay enough for a meal deal. I mean, they're only £3 and, even so, some will scour the internet for a voucher whilst saying the people making them should make more money.
This is so very true. Look on here, people want to pay the minimum that they possibly can (in some cases) and then go on to complain that the jobs providing these goods and services pay too little.
I've a cousin like this. He's outraged that his young lad gets "only" £9 an hour as a recent starter on a production line, and will rant and rave about the evil government who cause this. He also buys the cheapest car available, and buys ONLY on price.
I pointed out to him that one thing leads to the other, but this argument did not calm him down.0 -
Well people are always complaining that childcare is too dear..................and then on the other hand people are always complaining that wages are too low ...........you cannot have it both ways.
If people want "cheaper" childcare then how do they propose the carers are paid the "living" wage.......whatever the rather vague "living" wage means
Govt provided/subsidised nursery places (with nursery workers paid a living wage), so it is worth young mothers going out to work. Surely that is more cost effective than subsidising young single mothers to stay at home. I was in nursery while my parents worked many moons ago (it was probably free), not quite as long ago as this
http://ecrp.uiuc.edu/v4n2/kwon.htmlIn 1816, the first nursery school in the United Kingdom was established at New Lanark in Scotland by Robert Owen (1771-1858) for the children of cotton mill workers. Children ages 1 to 6 were cared for while their parents and older siblings worked in the cotton mills.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is. I thought they were targeting the East coast where the largest concentration of EU migrants are. It wouldn't really make sense to target the old mill towns with their Bangledeshis and Pakistanis when they are an anti-EU party. I am sure they will find a way though.'Just think for a moment what a prospect that is.
