Things that annoy you in supermarkets

  • I can't stand people who think it's acceptable to stay chatting on their mobiles throughout the entire checkout process; not making eye contact, saying hello, please or thank you to the operator.

I feel sorry for small children in supermarkets though; they're being taken to a place stacked with brightly coloured, interesting shaped things that are meant to be picked up, and have to sit/walk quietly and not touch anything.

I try and block out the noise and tedium by staring nosily at other shoppers' baskets/trolleys and trying to guess their lifestyle, or passing silent judgement on the purchasing choices. One of life's free pleasures.
    They are an EYESORES!!!!

I like to think of the supermarket as a road and the customers as cars. The side streets are connected to the main roads and people should look where they are going when they come out. They wouldn't dare barge out in their car otherwise they'd be in an at-fault accident. Likewise, barging into others in order to get an item from the shelf/fridge that you could just wait 10 seconds for the other customer to finish selecting their purchase.

But motorists do barge out from side streets, or barge into a particular lane nearer the traffic lights so they don't have to queue up like everyone else, gaining an advantage. They "bully" other motorists.

It is only due to the competent driving of the people who are on the end of this behaviour that accidents are avoided.

If you took away the fact they are in a car then they would do the same at supermarkets, like jump right in front of you in a queue then look back at you and sneer.

Only it doesn't happen as they don't have the protection of being isolated in a car and would get a black eye.

    A couple more recently occurred.

1- person in front buying alchol cashier called for authorisation code supervisor looked down noticed I was buying alchol and walked off- why I would obviously need her to be called back to authorise me why not wait.

2/ Challange 25- pointless I've got me youngest daughter in trolley packed to bursting car keys in hand and paying via credit card- Seriously under 18- common sense please

Perhaps it's a sign that you should stop buying alcohol and use the money saved to pay for English lessons?

Just out of interest what has that got to do with things that annoy you in supermarkets?

If my lack of English - probably born out of typing on a smart phone annoys you then don't reply- simple.

The above quote sums up the pettiness small mindidness and unnescassery sarcasm of a minority of members of this forum.
  • One thing that supermarkets (well, my local ASDA) do is swapping the contents of aisles over, i.e. everything that was on the right gets swapped over to the left.

Why? What is the point of this? It must take a while to do and I can't see any benefits. At least when they move things to other aisles it gets you walking around the store trying to find things.

    Not particularly annoying, just confusing.

  • 2 Someone who is being served at a checkout and you're the next in queue but they forget something halfway through and walks off to the furthest corner of the massive store, holding up everyone else till they come back with their tin of beans.

That one really annoys me. If I forget something, I just go round again, and queue again..

Queuing behind somebody with a couple of items, then find that they have a partner who arrives with a whole trolley load o stuff.

People who wait for all their items to be scanned before they start packing, then look for their credit card after they've finished filling their bags
  • OK, this is slightly going off supermarkets, but when you order a burger in McDonalds the staff always ask if that's the meal. NO!!! IF I WANTED THE MEAL I WOULD HAVE SAID MEAL!! STOP TRYING TO UPSALE ME!
  • Dont think these have been mentioned but I get really annoyed with people that just wont let go of their trolley even for one second! Example, they are making their way down the aisle, they realise they have walked past something they wanted so walk backwards down the aisle still holding their trolley. Just let it go!!

Also I find it strange that old people who go shopping (husband and wife) have a trolley each. Why?!!

Possibly because they are unsteady on their feet and need something to lean on?
