I have a £20 Argos voucher .... this could work out as a good choice ...

what is the difference between SIM free & PAYG here?

    Argos purchase costs are ...
    SIM free
    Moto G = £149.95
    Moto E = £89.95
    Samsung Galaxy S3 mini £119.95
    Samsung Galaxy Fame £84.95
    Samsung Galaxy Ace £119.95

Do I need SIM free to choose any network at all ... including the recommended Three or giffgaff?
What network / deal would buying PAYG with Argos take me on to?

you don't need sim-free if you're considering a motoG or MotoE, I've just very easily unlocked my new MotoE from Tesco mobile using an ebay unlock code (it only cost a pound for the code). As long as the payg network isn't t-mobile (as for some reason or other unlock codes for the MotoE or G don't work as easily unlocking t-mobile).

I thought from your posts above that you'd gone for the MotoE on contract with Tesco Mobile OP?

It can be locked to the network that sim it's sold with (depends on the retailer).
Do you know which Argos go with?

Scrap that qquestion ... they offer:

    Vodafone
    EE
    TMobile
    O2

can those be unlocked? ... they are cheaper to buy than a SIM free

After chat with my wife, we decided to get at lest one phone PAYG not contract.
Still looking for something ... Moto G gets much better reviews than Moto E for features.
But for similar price come those others.
I'm looking argos as they seem keen on price & I have £20 in vouchers.

How do those others I named compare vs Moto E & G?

O2 can definitely be easily unlocked for the MotoG.

Three 321 works out cheaper than landline nowadays. Nice to to be able to organise your life while out and about. I struggle to spend more than £5/month on 321 even freely using data.

    99p unlock code available here
I had a problem with this. I used it quickly, the seller took my 99p but didn't deliver.

They claimed not to have received my info message, which I sent several times. In the end, I ran out of patience and cancelled the order, requesting a refund. They requested info again when I told them of cancellation. No refund. They now don't answer my messages.

I'd like to follow up with ebay but their system relies on order information being quoted. The order has disappeared from the system! There seems to be no other way of alerting ebay. I suppose I could involve the credit card company, though whether it's worthwhile for 99p is another matter.

BTW, I successfully used http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Unlock-Alcatel-One-Touch-POP-C1-OT-4015A-4015D-4015N-4015X-Code-Sim-me-Pin-/251702062551?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item3a9a9cadd7 , also 99p. Very quick code and much simpler operation than the one mentioned before.
