  • Include your full name, current address and any other addresses you have had in the last two years, Social Security number, date of birth, current employer and phone number if ordering by mail. Sign your request and include a check for the applicable amount. You can expect to receive a paper copy of your credit report within 15 business days.

Credit Reference Agencies (CRAs) have a statutory obligation to provide you with your credit file and charge no more than £2. These reports are paper based and will be posted to you.

You can apply online for your reports from the two leading CRAs using the following links:

    http://www.wiseconsumer.uk.experian.com
    https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/gb_consumerletter.ehtml

Alternatively, CRAs also offer online reports and other products for a charge. In my opinion only the reports are valuable, additional services like "credit ratings" are expensive and are of little use to most people. As they say though, "your mileage may vary".

Both Equifax and Experian offer a 30 day free trial of their online subscription services, you can apply online via these links.

    https://www.creditexpert.co.uk/UK/Order1_1.aspx
    https://www.econsumer.equifax.co.uk/consumer/uk/order.ehtml?prod_cd=UKESNG&pri_opt=UKESNG_5999_ANNUAL_TRL

If at the end of thirty days you do not wish to continue with the subscription you should contact the CRA and cancel, if you fail to do so you will be charged the annual fee (approx £60). These services are expensive but they not only offer you the valuable information contained in your credit reports, they also offer a means to combat identity theft and fraud.

    Hope this helps.[/quote]

I have recently ordered my statutory credit reports for £2 with Equifax and Experian. Because I already obtained reports from them (with the free trials), I just assumed that all the addresses variations and old addresses were automatically attached to any request.
I was really surprise to receive from Experian the report for only the address variation I filled in the form, and none of the rest or my old address (i.e. VERY incomplete). For Equifax, it's even worse: after asking me for a proof of my ID and address, they sent me a report.... completely empty! (while less than a year ago, they sent me a full report). What a waste of money!
  • That is a great idea to post that as to many people have been thinking about what to do to get credit card reports.Well done!
  • I also had problems with creditexpert. I signed up and because I had the free trial about 2 years ago it told me that I would be charged £6.99 straight away. I was happy with this so signed up and paid. Then for a week when I tried to check my records it just kept saying they were being updated.

Today I rang to cancel my subscription and complain about the above to be told that because I had signed up previously that was why I couldn't access my records. They would need to wipe me from the system and I would have to re-register. I now have the 30 day trial again plus a month I have already paid for then if I want I can cancel. Wish they had emailed me about this instead of having to call them.

Not sure how and when it is updated. I checked mine and my HSBC credit card isn't showing at all. All my TSB accounts were last updated in August so I guess you just have to looke at each account and see when it was updated. Hope that makes sense.

So i can get a report for just £2? Ive recently been a victim off fraud after £400 was taken from my debit card. I want to check if any other details were taken and if they have taken any credit out on my name. Will this report allow me to check this?
  • I have a quick question. Does having too many cards count against your credit rating / report?

Over the years, I've had various cards with various amounts. With the introduction of 0% offers here and there, I've applied for new cards and transferred balances etc (as you do) but I have never closed any accounts I no longer use.

I heard from a friend of a friend that when applying for loans and mortgages, the fact that I have access to quite a lot of money in un-secured credit can count against my rating. Is this true? If so, what is an acceptable amount of credit you can have before it affecting your rating for the worst?

    Thanks,

    John

Yes you can get your report for just £2, and if I am not mistaken, Equifax let you pay online instead of having to send off a cheque.

If you have been a victim of fruad, I would recommend that you request your report from all 3 CRA's, Equifax, Experian and CallCredit.

The reports will show any searches done on your report, which will show if anyone has tried to get credit in your name, and also all your accounts from the last 6 years, even if they are settled.

Sometimes it can take a month or so before they are updated, so depending on when the fraud occured, you may want to hold on?

Cheers. The fraud was last week so i may hold out for abit. Dont all the reports from the 3 CRA contain the same information? Or is it possible 1 may say someone tried to get credit using my name, and another report may come back clean? Thanks for the info tho

No. Many lenders only search one CRA, although accounts (once set up) are often reported to two or more CRA's.
