This would only matter if you had no other credit facilities. Provided that your other active accounts are shown, the fact that two are missing from your Equifax report is of no importance really.

Thanks. I only have one other credit card and one debit card though, should I still leave it?

    Cheers again,

    Chris

As you're now in the process of acquiring a second credit card (I read your other thread), I would let this Barclaycard fiasco go, if I were you ;)

    Cheers for your help

Well, your O2 contract may yet turn up on your other credit reports but, if not, I wouldn't be too concerned.

Your current account plus overdraft (even if unused) plus your existing NatWest card indicate that you can handle credit.

That said, you may find it that bit easier to get the cards and credit limits you want, once you have operated these and at least one other credit card for a while ;)

Thanks again for the reply. Yeah I will be closing my existing NatWest MasterCard though as its a student card with a rubbish limit, unless Egg only give me £500 too?!

I'll see how it goes :)

Doesn't matter that much. Cards that are closed down and marked "settled" stay on your credit file for six years and, provided that your payment history is good, indicate that you can handle credit well.

That said, I wouldn't be in a hurry to close it down. It's not as though you have an excessive number of credit cards at the mo. (I believe the national average is five.)

Good luck with your Egg application.

  • Hi guys,

I am pretty new here and would appreciate if anyone can help me. I have received my credit report from Experian and noticed a wrong entry. Looks like I had defaulted a Barclaycard payment. I had, but that was settled nearly two years ago. I sent a correctio notice to Experian but they said they had to get confirmation from the creditor, then they rote to me to say Barclaycard had confirmed the information was correct and demaded them to keep it in their files. I wrote to Barclaycard-nearly 2 months ago- but I haven't received any reply. Surely there must be a way of taking that further because I don't owe them anything. But I don't know how to proceed. Can you help?

    Many thanks
    Jill

Errors can be corrected or amended, but you cannot get data which is accurate removed.

That said, your unblemished record with other lenders will be evident from your credit files. It's your payment history with all your creditors over the last 6 years that counts, with particular emphasis on the most recent 12 months. Your slip-up with Barclaycard becomes less significant as time goes by ;)

It's not uncommon for MSEs to post completely different scores from the three CRAs.

Just out of interest, I found that http://www.checkmyfile.com offer credit report access to all three providers - and it looks A LOT cheaper than if you went to all three individually.

    It's like £14.95 a quarter for unlimited access, or £19.95 for a one-off report from all 3 CRA's.

There is a handy table here of prices from all the agencies if it helps: http://www.credit-card-comparison-online.co.uk/articles/free-credit-report-online.html

I'm not sure if there is less data sent from some of the CRA's to CheckMyFile than they would give you if you went direct (CheckMyFile say on their site you'll get most data from CallCredit, a bit less from Equifax and only public visible data from Experian).

I don't think you can get a proper CRA credit score either.

But it might be more money-saving than going to all three separately!

How does this save money? This info's available for £2 per paper copy when ordered directly from the credit reference agencies. (See the *How to obtain credit reports* sticky ;))
