Well repair costs are a part of owning a car and you should always have contingency plan to mitigate any potential risks.
Don't think the OP asked for a lecture.
Unnecessary comment of the day award goes to....Life isn't about the number of breaths we take, but the moments that take our breath away. Like choking....0 -

I understand that there are many people who live cheque to to cheque , but things can be done overtime to improve the situation. A long term strategy, budgeting can be put in place, perhaps learning new skills so you can do a bit of DIY. Hopefully I'll save a bit doing general servicing on my vehicle.0 -

If only he had told his car to wait until he had done all this, then it would have broken at a much more convenient time.

Yes, I'll learn to fix my vehicle in all my spare time - of which I have none. I'll also have a contingency plan for a vehicle I've had only a few months.
I am on minimum wage and already stated that I work strange hours. Unless I'm to get under my car in the middle of the night with my haynes manual...
Just no. Besides which, my arthritis wouldn't much like being down on the floor.
That'd be just dandy. Why am I off work sick? I can't move because I was fixing my car all night (on a budget of zero) so I could get to work.
