When did you buy your TV? There is a lot of confusion about this: you may need some sort of box. Full Freeview HD built in is fairly recent I think.

In TV terms mine is quite old and it is freeview hd in fact when I purchased it I couldn't even receive the hd version of it because it wasn't broadcast in my region at the time.

I have checked on freeview website, I should be able to receive all 13 HD channels where I live. HD ready means the screen is capable of showing but the TV doesn't have capacity to receive it, full HD means the TV has the capacity to receive it and the screen to show it so there shouldn't be any extra equipment needed.

Have you looked for the channels?. BBC1 HD is 101.

Norman. we've tried that - we don't have any channels between 70 and 120 which are the HD ones.

We have Hitachi L42VK04U and a Haier LTF24C360. I know they are both 'reasonably priced' tv's - I was on a budget when I bought them. I rang Argos who sold the Hitachi, they confirmed it is full HD and the Haier states it in the handbook.

The Hitachi is definitely only an SD Freeview tuner and from what I can find the Haier is the same

Specification from the Haier handbook is '24" Full HD 1080p Digital LCD TV'. I have tried re-tuning it but no HD channels :-(

I have checked the spec on this model and can confirm it doesnt have a HD tuner. It has a full hd display but NOT a HD tuner. If you want HD channels on freeview you need to buy a standalone freeview HD tuner.

This http://www.hitachidigitalmedia.com/product.do?actionName=showProductAction&pt=17&pg=68&proid=759&language=en&country= says freeview but not freeview HD.

They can show a HD image from a HD source but cannot receive Freeview HD.

It may be the spec, but if it does not have an HD tuner it will not receive HD transmissions.

Can I get HD if I route the signal through a blu ray player? I'm not desperate to watch HD channels, it just seems silly that if I can receive them not to watch them.
