Can't get HD freeview

I live 15 miles from a transmitter in a 3 yr old house with aerial in the loft. I have 2 full HD tv's in the house. I can get standard freeview channels on them both but have never been able to get HD channels on either of them. I have tried unplugging the one in the kitchen and retuning the main set to see if this helps but same problem. Any ideas?? I can't imagine I need a booster being this close to the transmitter......

Most of them appear to have sky.0

Very stupid question but have you got free view HD receivers in the tvs? Most tvs just receive free view not the hd version. I live a long way from a transmitter and i receive it fine.0

I have checked both instruction manuals and both are full HD as opposed to HD ready so I'm presuming they should receive HD channels (I'm not very techie)0

Thats not the same. A full HD TV wont necessarily have a freeview HD tuner in it. In fact few do. A HD tuner is a definite selling point so you should be in no doubt if yours have HD tuners. I think its unlikely yours do have HD tuners.
The HD usually refers to its ability to display HD when connected to a HD compatible source such as a SKY HD box or blueray player.0 -

I think to receive freeview hd you have to have free view hd rather than standard free view, if your TV will only pick up standard freeview then it doesn't matter if the TV is hd it won't receive it (it will still show hd from other sources like sky hd for example) Hopefully someone will be along to explain it better than me soon.
Edit crossed posted see above! I have a TV with a freeview hd tuner hence why I can receive it, to be honest you are not missing much I normally forget to use it and end up just watching the standard channels anyway!0 -
When did you buy your TV? There is a lot of confusion about this: you may need some sort of box. Full Freeview HD built in is fairly recent I think.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

We have Hitachi L42VK04U and a Haier LTF24C360. I know they are both 'reasonably priced' tv's - I was on a budget when I bought them. I rang Argos who sold the Hitachi, they confirmed it is full HD and the Haier states it in the handbook.0

Haier was bought Jan 2011, Hitachi was bought June 20120
