Feeling Bad For Being Ungrateful But Still What A Waste

Good outcome, just make sure you now discuss how you are going to treat each other for special occasions from now on. OH have been together 6 years, and we both agreed that we have run out of good ideas, so instead of buying stuff we don't care for at Christmas, we would both treat each other to a surprised week-end away during the first 6 months. The surprise is the destination!
Yeah im going to I think

I'm exactly like this - I love little bits rather than grand gestures (which I completely appreciate is much harder to buy for sometimes!)
Glad it's somewhat sorted for you. Not that it matters much now, but I don't really like it. I like fairly neutral bags or ones with block colour so you don't have to arrange your outfit around it! Bless him, it does seem like there was some thought there, but returning it is definitely for the best. Hope he's not offended for long!DS - 08/15

I had a boyfriend a few years ago who was 10 years older than me, his previous wife had been a bag and shoes woman, I am as far away from being a bag and shoes woman as you could possibly get (I have one handbag, yes one, which is used until it dies and then I get another one, really cannot see the point in having more than one. I also only have one pair of high heels, one pair of flats and one pair of flip flop like things)
Anyway, it was coming up to my birthday and on a trip around town he was asking what I would like, I pointed out a few things (cheaper end electronics, books etc). Then we came to a handbag shop and he asked about handbags, I replied that as I wasn't the sort to get excited over a handbag and I only ever had one at a time, then the last thing he should get was a handbag for me, especially as my current handbag was only a few months old and in very decent condition. A full discussion then ensued about it where I explained I was never one for all the faff and silliness of matching handbags to outfits etc, I have never been a girly girl and that I liked practical gifts.
Fast forward to my birthday....he got me a handbag as "all woman like handbags" :rotfl:We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Aww I'm with OP here. My hubby bought me a chloe Paddington bag for £899 some years back. It's still in box inside bag lol
You need to tell him and return it. Wish I had.

Just to demonstrate how much I'm not a 'handbag' woman, when I read 'Paddington bag', this is roughly what I pictured:Life is mainly froth and bubble

My sympathies OP - glad you found the courage to tell him. I'd be horrified at the price alone, but for him to have paid so much for something you didn't like anyway ... My OH can't afford to splash much cash, and hasn't got it hugely wrong yet thankfully, but I'd feel very much as you did.Life is mainly froth and bubble

He probably won't be offended for too long but you may find that you'll hear about it again when you next have a disagreement......."It's like when I bought you that expensive bag and you threw it back in my face" etc etc.
I love SingleSue's handbag story! Luckily for me, my husband wouldn't never even think about buying me a handbag, he knows that I have handbags stashed all over the house.
When we spent our first Christmas together he asked me if there was anything special that I would like for Christmas. I told him that as I had been living alone and paying a mortgage and bills, I hadn't been able to buy any clothes for ages, and that I would really like a nice outfit to wear to parties etc. Knowing that men generally hate shopping, I assumed that he would give me some money to go and buy something. Unfortunately, he thought it would be nice to take me out to get it (i.e. pick it out for me) and after 3 hours of trawling around the shops, with him picking out clothing that a teenage hooker would think was a bit over the top, I gave up and got him to buy me a necklace instead. :rotfl::rotfl:
I can't bring myself to think about the underwear horrors that I received for Valentine's Day the following year, bless him!"I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
