And for people who can't be bothered to read the whole article

I'm sure the OP will be along any minute to apollygise.

I like a bet as much as the next person but I don't like the odds on that one :rotfl:

OK well they used to get commission, and they must be under some sort of pressure to meet sales targets or something these days.

Not for at least the last 10 years they didn't.

And of course they did not lie. There is 100% a risk that your Mum's tablet will succumb to a virus or key logger or similar that will expose her to hacking. Especially using an OS like Android. I personally shudder at the thought of using it, as you literally have NO idea what apps are doing in the background when you download them. Granted, iPlayer is likely to be okay, but if your mum downloads a lovely bit of software that makes all her icons look pretty, you do not know what information they are gathering while they do that.

An antivirus will at least give you a little bit of comfort that nothing too untoward is happened.

Anyway, I'm giving up on you like the rest have - you're obviously a lost cause with limited knowledge about what you are talking about.

And a little bit of me hopes you get a virus on your tablet and you can eat your words.

A couple of old sayings come to mind:

    'better safe than sorry'

    'prevention is better than cure'.
  • Spoke to my dh and you are all wrong. That iPad bug would only affect people who disable the standard security on the iPad and download a Chinese app store. Daily mail great source of scare story's to fool sheep.

And yes they lied to me also when I went in to return it. The software they sold her you can't even setup unless you have a big PC, that my mum doesn't.

They sold software that wasn't suitable or needed but lied to say no other software is any good and it isn't safe without what they are selling. I'd happy be proved wrong if someone knows of someone who's bank account was hacked using iPad without Norton antivirus.

Yes but if it can happen in one country it won't be long till others latch on or did that thought not occur to you?

I don't think you quite understand the technical issues.

If you think they have committed fraud as you say then its off to the police station . But if its not fraud but misrepresentation then its Trading Standards you contact .

Actually thinking about it, it's starting to sound more like she was actually sold hotspot security which is needed if you ever connect to public wifi, iPad or not a hacked public network is a risk, not needed if it will never be used out of the house but a very good idea if it is.

I am impressed by your loyalty, but frankly, just because your dh says something, it certainly does not mean that it is right.
