I'm concerned they are conning people with their lies. Who should I take this up with further?
To answer your original question, if you believe Curry's have committed fraud, then that is a criminal matter and you should take it up with your local Police station.
Most people on here don't agree with you, and I suspect the police would take a similar view.
You've got the money refunded, which I think is very reasonable of Curry's in the circumstances. You don't normally get refunds on software.
I would say Curry's sold your mother something that she probably didn't need to buy (there are free AV programmes that do the job), if she has the technical expertise to find appropriate programmes on the internet and download and install them.
That's the way businesses work - often trying to sell you things you don't really need, and charging as much as you are prepared to pay regardless of what they are really worth.
The problem is as old as the hills. Caveat emptor.0 -
This comes up time and time again and many Currys staff have posted over the years that they DO NOT get commission so you need to come up with another excuse. Of course it's a sales persons job to make sales and to get as much as possible for each sale but it doesn't mean they get anything more than their basic and probably minimum wage for doing it.
When will people learn to do their research before going shopping instead of expecting sales people to say "no don't be silly, don't spend your money here you can get it much cheaper at (insert competitor here), and the optional add ons are not needed at all in any circumstance"
OK well they used to get commission, and they must be under some sort of pressure to meet sales targets or something these days.
I still think they told lies and made up scare storys, even apple say you don't need anti virus and I've never herd of anyone " needing" anti virus if they want to use iPad online.0 -

So if Apple say so... it must be right. I understand now.
I don't remember you telling us it was anti-virus for an ipad she bought.0 -
Given Currys track record I wouldn't be surprised to find that they are selling PC AV software for Android tablets.
As with the PC if you think you need AV on a tablet there are free solutions available. To my mind there is no need for any AV on them yet anyway.
It isn't fraud it's just cynical preying on uniformed customers to turn a profit.0 -

Apple don't say you don't need antivirus for any of their products, they even try to sell you some if you buy a mac from them directly.
They do say that iPads don't need antivirus which right now they don't, it goes back to what I said about android being open source and not checking what is available for download. Apple certify everything available through the app store which is why they are safer and why some free android apps and paid apps on iPads.
A jailbroken iPad can get a virus as it allows you to download uncertified apps and you lose the built in protection IOS offers you.
They won't be impervious forever though and someone will eventually develop a virus that can get on somehow.0 -
So if you don't need them at the moment then why is it not a downright lie to say "its not safe to go online with this tablet without buying our software? You email and bank account count be hacked."
Anyway they've got back to my strongly worded message with help from my dp who works in it. They have offered 25 in vouchers doubt we will use them.0 -

Surely the vouchers should go to your Mum as she was the one who was "lied to"?0
