curry's committing fraud selling anti virus for tablets

Hi, my mum went into curry's to buy a tablet. She was given a hard sale by the person working there who talked her into buying anti virus for her tablet by saying it isn't safe to go onto the internet without it and people would be able to hack her bank account / emails.
Downright lies from curry's. I've got the anti virus refunded but the store or head office didn't offer any apology, they just said "we like to protect our customers with anti virus".
I'm concerned they are conning people with their lies. Who should I take this up with further?

It's not really fraud or lies is it? It may be an exaggeration of the truth but it's not downright lies is it?
Anti-virus/malware do keep your computer safe from nasties out on the internet.
If you have an issue with their sales tactics take it up with mangement or head-office.Thinking critically since 1996....0 -
I was given the option to add anti virus to my laptop when I bought it and thankfully it came with one month anyway, I opted out because my friend can do it for me later
its good to have though, I guess some people go back complaining that they've had problems and this is the companys way of preventing later problems with sales/ refunds etc0 -
How new is your mum to the Internet? To someone who's not used the Internet before it can be a minefield so I'd say no, those are not lies or fraud.0

its not just people trying to gain access to your bank details, a few years ago I fell victim to the sircam worm via a link in an email that supposedly came from a friends relative, replicating itself in one of their email address books and coming to me
always best not to carry an address book with your emails, never have done myself but these things can be picked up by anti virus, worth the money really0 -
I've just had to complain because an employee tried selling me antivirus for a chromebook (which comes with its own software) and was insistent that I was wrong in thinking that I didn't need it.
£25 voucher coming through the post as an apologyOur Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

A lot of websites and magazines are saying that having AV for tablets is not a bad Idea. It can help protect from Apps with malware and have anti theft features. They do say it's not a necessity to have it at the moment but that might change.Come on you Irons0

I think its definitely miss selling aka fraud.
They said the tablet wasn't safe on the internet without it and did say that free anti virus apps were not good. Lies and deception.
All the sales person wanted to do is get their commission.0 -
so running a tablet without anti virus is ok then ?0

Running a tablet without the anti virus they are selling is OK and doesn't mean your emails and bank account will be hacked.0
-
which anti virus would you recommend ?0
