You say it isn't the MSE way but if it gives you a better 'quality' of life (I hate that saying) its definitely the right thing to do if you can. I can't see how anyone could disagree that anything that makes it easier for you to do things would be the wrong thing to do. I've spent on things for youngest that we could have managed without, however having them makes a huge difference to what we can do. I have not one single regret about it.
 Take care

Life is for living and doing whatever makes it easier for us to live it has to be good. I think a hoist would make a world of difference to you but only you know if you can make the number crunching work for you. If you can do it - you can get out and about rather than sitting worrying and contemplating about it. In my experience considering something is good but overthinking can cause more problems than it solves. If you do do it - enjoy it and try not to look back saying ‘if’
Hope that makes sense - I know what I mean but it’s tricky to explain :o :o
My dh is the worst ever for overthinking - his mum was the same and wouldn’t spend a penny on anything to make her life easier - she sat in most days and became really down instead of using appliances to get herself out meeting people. And the cash she had left was so very nearly scammed from her (and us - it’s still being sorted) I’d have much rather seen her having the odd holiday and getting herself out on a scooter. Rather than paying thousands in solicitors fees to get things sorted - she’d be turning in her grave if she knew what has happened.....

Totally agree with WannaBeFree and milann - that was the reasoning behind me getting a new kitchen and paying for it with money I inherited from my mum. I never expected that money, I thought we'd have to pay for social care for a long time and it would all be used up. But when I *did* get it, I decided it had to be used, and some of it had to be used now - I'm not nearly as well as she was, so anything I can do to ease my path is really important, and a better kitchen thats easier to move around in with more storage is absolutely the right thing.
Same for you, even though it's not inherited money - something that positively affects your standard of living, to such an extent, if you can possibly afford it, you need to go for it.
I can maybe understand it hurts to have to acknowledge that you need something like a hoist I don't think anyone would begrudge you those feelings. But don't let those feelings trap you, either, not when challenging them could give you such a lot more movement. Hope this is okay to write, beanie. xxx 2023: the year I get to buy a car0 I don't think anyone would begrudge you those feelings. I agree with everyone's comments above. You need to make your life easier whether it's the MSE way or not. Do what's best for you xxI get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)0

            Dearest beanielou
Your VF on here, have said some very wise things, which I agree with totally.
I have had a hoist for over a decade, I couldn’t live without mine, - silly question but why do you have to swap cars ? My hoist that was once fitted into my coupe has transferred to my new car, it’s a basic one that lifts lightweight scooters which yours will be and can be added retrospectively, can’t Motability do this for you? It was about £300.
I know this journey is hard, from one who has come out the other side... it will be worth it xxxAs a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or

Thanks. Mobility have quoted me £1.5 k for it to be fitted mid lease. It is not cost effective for me. xxxI am a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Mortgage Free Wannabe & Local Money Saving Scotland & Disability Money Matters. I initially thought that this was a lot, until I asked my OH what it cost us to fit our hoist in the car last year which was £1285.00 and our guy is very reasonable so I would say that this was about right, however we own the hoist, and can transfer it to another car.....
This one was more swish than the one in my car that is half the cost but only takes half the weight...... :( :( :( As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or :( As a dear MSE friend says “keep plodding” or
