Good news on the diabetes :)  Just caught up, to have reliable trades that you like - get that kitchen done!

The first place I rented when I left the ex was totally equipped for wheelchair users.   I didn't realise when I first looked but the kitchen was at a lower height.  Still totally usable by an able bodied person but everything was just lower, all the floors were wooden (so easy to sweep through with a broom each day when I came in from the horses) and all the bathrooms were wet rooms.  I loved the place.

It  makes absolute sense to me to do everything and anything you can do now while you have the people to help and the energy and to future proof the house for you.   I hope the planning process brings you much joy.
Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became

In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!

Oooh, sympathies, I’ve had months of this ….
I find slathering on some V0ltarol on the sore area, if you can reach (my pain is in the front of my shoulder joint) and taking some painkillers before bed makes a huge difference to my quality of sleep, if you can use these options.

I think you had physio yesterday? If that triggered it, maybe it is something to discuss with the physio?

What are you doing about the walls.  When I eventually get round to having mine done I am thinking that most where there are units will be similar to the splashwall I have in my bathroom - no grout to clean - bliss.  A bit more expensive but it will also be easier for them to do as the walls are all over the place.  I think they must have left the very junior apprentice plasterer all on his own when it was done.  Although it is quite possible that when they try to take the old tiles off that all the plaster will come off too.  My father fitted my kitchen for me over 30 years ago when I bought it & he had a reputation in the family for nothing ever coming off a wall once he had fixed it there & it hasn't.

I have now had the quote for the fitting of new kitchen & removal of old & the new floor. It is considerably more expensive than I thought it it would be. I actually feel a tad sick.  I am about 2k short. I need to have a serious think about the way forward.
Is it worth getting other quotes?

is it just the labour that makes the cost so much higher? If it is it might be worth talking to your contractor about whether you might be able to do it in phases to spread the cost? So buy all the units up front (so they all match) but have the units fitted / kitchen done in two phases, six months apart perhaps to give you time to pull the other £2K together?
