Karmacat said:The laptop I bought earlier this year is a Lenovo - I have an IT nephew, and he said he buys them for all the team he manages (doesn't use them himself, he's got something magical, no idea what, but Lenovo are fine). It's very lightweight, much easier to slob around the house with. NB remember that very few modern laptops have a DVD slot - you're very restricted on what you can instal.
Good luck!

Oh Beanie, I had so much catching up to do!
1. Nearly at the end of your MORTGAGE. Amazing.
2. Good news on the loan.
3. Brilliant news on the cooker and the fridge freezer.
4. Fab news about the shiny laptop.
And as ever am in awe of you and the food bank.
big love XXXXXNevertheless she persisted.6 -
I went through the replacement laptop thing just over a year ago because my old acer was still running Office 7. I actually bought a cheap Chromebook from AOL. It was about £200, it is very light, survives falling off the sofa (!) and the battery lasts ages. Mostly I use it for being online (banking, this forum, reading the paper, facebook groups, reading the news and looking stuff up). It is brilliant for that and reboots when it needs to in under a minute. I don't need more. Mine is one of these
What it is not good for is if you like to store loads of documents as it is all online - I use google-docs (word-processing) and google sheets (spreadsheets) and my google storage space for anything I receive by email that I want to keep. It has a pad not a mouse too and is not touch screen. The equivalent with a touch screen is a Microsoft surface pro which is a rather wonderful bit of kit I had in my last job - all singing, dancing, super-fast tablet/laptop crossover with a protective keypad that folds over to protect your screen - at about £1k it wants to be.
Just been back on to see you have made your decision - I hope you are happy with it!Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

My work computer is a Surface Pro and they are fabulous. However, I hate the keyboard, I'm a trained touch typist and can't be doing with tiny flat keys so have attached a proper keyboard and mouse to it. You won't be disappointed with the Acer though.I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)7

I've had three different laptops since in a very short space of time. Sadly Dell is beyond my budget now. My original one was a reduced offer in our Tesco superstore in the days when you could look at one on display, check the keys and feel the weight. I knew nothing about laptops but my youngest daughter said I'd never see a better model and price and she was right.I'm glad your new one is sorted beanie and really glad I decided to check your thread yesterday.pollyx
