Thanks for asking the laptop question beanie. I had a number of enforced breaks from the forum due to failing laptops. My beloved Dell was good and lasted 12 years. However they are no longer so good and in my case too expensive.I was debating whether to ask on the OS forum but have in the past been directed to the Techie forum. I'm sure a lot of those there mean well but when I've asked a question they offer different advice , start disagreeing and I end up confused.I hope you, miss summer and the family are ok.From the replies here the Acer seems popular . I'll take a look at those and consult the family techies. I'm not very knowledgable with tech.Arthritic fingers and Fibro Fog mean it needs to be a laptop. Thanks to all who've posted . I'll pop back to see what's being suggested .Keep plodding beanie.pollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

I'm glad the alarm has been sorted.
We bought an Acer laptop earlier in the year and it's fab. I think it's this one: https://www.argos.co.uk/product/7991394"Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee5 -

Thank you all for helping me. I've spent a while looking back and forth between Acer or the Lenovo Ideapad 3.It's surprising how many of you have Acers. No techie jargon just helpful posts.Thank you jwil for the link . It seems exactly what I was looking for.If Asus is good enough for all of you including our dear beanie. It's good enough for me.Whatever you're all doing over the festive season I hope this strangest of years still lets you find some rest and time to recharge your batteries. I may live in my pjs with a fluffy blanket ready for the year to come.Hopeful wishes for a better year ahead for us all.Take carepollyxIt is better to light a single candle than to curse the darkness.

The laptop I bought earlier this year is a Lenovo - I have an IT nephew, and he said he buys them for all the team he manages (doesn't use them himself, he's got something magical, no idea what, but Lenovo are fine). It's very lightweight, much easier to slob around the house with. NB remember that very few modern laptops have a DVD slot - you're very restricted on what you can instal.
Good luck!2023: the year I get to buy a car6
