Mini meltdown and light bulb moment

Hello, happy Sunday. Well, not for me, ive caught hubby's cold so I'm still in bed.
it's been a very successful MSE weekend so far!
Friday - got a lift in to work so no bus fare, then a colleague who doesn't work Fridays wanted to meet for lunch. I had an unintentionally long lunch break because the service in the cafe was so slow. My friend fetched the bill and paid for it all, so I got treated to lunch :T
Then at the work party I didn't need to get the bus to the hotel as oh picked me up. We got two free drinks included, and lovely Mexican style food, but eating on paper plates was not ideal. There wasn't really enough food so we were still hungry! The party wasn't that great, so we left after the raffle. We did win on the raffle! We were both so excited about the prize, we won a meat voucher worth £50! :T
We just add what we want on to the hotels meat order up to total of £50, so it will be decent local meat. Can't wait to get the order in!
When we got back to the hotel we put the breakfast order in, we put my juice and cereal onto OHs breakfast sheet, so we wouldn't have to pay extra.
as oh works at the hotel, as long as the room cost is covered, they don't mind.
The night porter offered to bring us a sandwich as we were still hungry, so we ordered a film and ate the sandwiches.
When we checked out the following morning, the night porter hadn't put the charge through for the sandwiches, breakfast tray charge, or the film, saving us £13.50.
I took my new look order back to the shop and got full refund of £66.
I got my mums birthday present for half price so it was £8. And i got a girl called jack cookbook for £2.99 as my friend bought me a book token for my birthday :T
Oh, and I spent £13.60 in asda getting the bits that aldi didn't have on the shelf last week, and I've rounded down my account balance and transferred another £5.41 to savings, so will update total on my signature.
All in all, a successful weekend!
Won't be doing a lot today as I feel dreadful, so definitely a NSD!0 -
I've changed my savings target total to include the car tax as well as the insurance.
I still have around £170 in my account with only £17 phone bill, and around £20 for bus fare due to come out. Not sure what to do with the surplus, whether to add it to savings or pay to stepchange towards debts. Leaving in my bank account is another idea but I don't want to keep seeing it there tempting me to spend it!!0 -
Well done on having all that money left over
Hope you feel better soon.
Mortgage 26.4.25 - £108,500 1.8.25 - £106,362.86
Mortgage overpayment savings - £3.33/£50
Mortgage overpayments so far - £675.980 -
NSD today as I've been stuck in bed all day with a terrible cold and bad chest
the unexpected leftover money in my account is definitely going to be kept to one side to cover the inevitable week long sickness absence

Its been two NSD's apart from £10 spent on flowers to go with mums birthday present yesterday, apart from the flowers my sister and I bought her the same thing! We're always doing that, it wasn't intentional. We should plan ahead really.
My sister wants us to apply for the sibling version of DOND on channel 4, ive been as an audience member but it would be cool to be on it and split any winnings with my sister. We'd take our parents and OH's on a big family holiday if we won enough.
Speculating aside, I'm waiting for OH to finish getting ready so we can head to the hospital, it's the genetic counselling appointment that I was referred for months ago, he knows what it is now but nothing more has been said, I'm nervous and kind of wishing I'd cancelled it as it just opens up options that OH clearly doesn't want to explore.
Will keep you posted how it goes.
Back to work tomorrow dispite still feeling crappy, I just can't afford to take more time off0 -
Appointment was pointless. But I've got a lot of thinking to do.
NSD today, apart from £1.50 parking.0 -
Just popped in to say Hi, Well done on all your latest money saving achievements and hope you are feeling better now. I can't pop in as much as usual to catch up as my internet keeps going down for days at a time. I just noticed it was on again so nipped on to catch up. Good luck!
