What is the current cheapest PAYG mobile service ? I have very light usage, so need something that won't lose the credit after 28 days and is calls only.

I agree.I think its the only network where you don't lose your credit at the end of the month. My advice would be to get a free sim and try it out for coverage in your area first.

You don't lose credit with O2 (I had my phone to get the broadband offers, years ago), but calls are expensive.

No payg network deletes your credit at the end of the month.

But yes, as long as you have a 3g phone then Three is probably cheapest.

My present phone is an old Nokia brick, so not 3G.

I'm very low user with my mobile and happy enough with Tesco, they don't make me do monthly top ups.

It might be cheaper to get a low cost "non network locked" 3G capable phone and use the 3 network "321 PAYG" SIM, you don't need to make many calls on a more expensive network to make up the difference. EE and Vodafone charge 10 times the cost per minute for voice calls compared to 3 on PAYG. The old Nokia brick might need a new battery as well, so the difference is reduced by the cost of a battery too...

The 3 package appears to only be available as calls with internet. I would have no use for the latter, as the phone is only for emergency use/calling for lifts and my home broadband services internet needs.

I was looking at Tesco, a couple of months ago (until my husband gave me a spare prepaid sim of his to use up). However, you really have to dig to find details on Lite User.

I'm assuming this, with 8p/minute, is the one you use ? What is the top up cost, is it just calls and how long do you get in call time ?

I'm confused, as if I go on the Sainsbury's site, they say their cost is 8p/minute, but claim that Tesco's is 25p.
