I remember when working in the after sales department of a main dealers (not going to name the marque as can't be arsed answering the inevitable smart-arsed remarks) a customer returned his week old car complaining about the rear window winder-handles not being in the exact same corresponding positions when the windows were closed.
Where is your point?
If a woman had eyes pointing in totally different directions, I'd complain.0 -

You should also make a point of locating all the controls before driving off, not whilst trying to drive with no lights on. All the controls should be illuminated, they illuminate when the headlights are turned on.
How does anyone manage with a hire car?0 -

Just to update you and clarify a few things. I am a none technical female, who was just asking a respectful question after struggling to drive my new car home in the pitch dark. I could not see where any of the controls were and was not shown them before leaving the garage. I was not given a manual with the car and did not have a light in the car to read it anyway. ......
Thank you to the posters who were prepared to give me the benefit of the doubt.
What a surprise it was our usual "ex-dealers" who weighed in with the sarcastic and unhelpful responses to say what a horrible customer you are etc etc.
Glad you got it sorted OP. Ask someone to show you where to check the oil etc and make sure you know what "the service" was meant to be and then you can always see if a friend can tell if they actually did it (just going on the books being missing and no handover done. These things can be missed)
Otherwise enjoy the new motor! What if there was no such thing as a rhetorical question?0 -

Just so long as I don't want much.0 -

holy moly! I thought this thread was a wind up in respose to 'darkmatter'!
seriously! the basic controls of any car are pretty much the same and any common sense should of allowed you to fumble around a bit until you found the switch to turn the light back on.GC Jan £431.490/£480.00  £48.51 under budget!0 -

Fix It Again Tony.
In all seriousness though, why do some manufacturers set the window winder so that when the rear window is closed that it is pointing downwards (somewhere in the 5 o'clock to 7 o'clock position) which bashes the passengers knee. How hard would it have been to set it so its approximately at 12 o clock with the window shut, well out of the way. Just my recent experience of having the misfortune of travelling in the back of a Ford Fusion.0 -

Unfortunately this often results in customers returning for warranty work as the door winders have a habit of dropping the window when they're set directly vertical at the closed position.
Stupid, but true.0
