Certainly not a rip off if you had booked in advance and payed £15 for a room...not per person and like I said they were available.

Yes but we don't always meticulously plan our lives way in advance (and often can't).

Had a work friend stay here one night a few weeks back, and the same happened to them while they were asleep in the room!

    Whoops! That sounds terrible.
So i should knock it down a notch further to the 'no way hosay' list.

Thats fair enough, but you do then have to be prepared to pay city centre prices if thats where you want to stay.

With my other post I was trying to point out that both nights werent £76 but £62.50 a night. How much do you want to pay?

Wetherspoons have one of their Wetherspoon Lodge hotels in Birmingham. It is literally a 2 minute walk from New Street station/Pallasades Shopping centre. http://www.jdwetherspoonlodges.co.uk/lodge/lodge-details.php?LodgeId=8 I have stayed in this hotel, excellent value, much like any travel inn/travelodge in terms of decor etc.

Unfortunately they don't have a "live" boooking system so worth giving them a call. Laterooms.com are showing it for £78 for the 2 nights, again need to call them to book, although I imagine direct with the hotel would be the same price if not cheaper.

Also the Britannia hotel Birmingham is available at £78 for the two nights. Again very central, 2 minutes from New Street. Stayed in a few Britannia's (not this one), their decor tends to be 'dated', but i've never found them tatty, and always been a clean and comfortable place to sleep! http://en.venere.com/hotels_birmingham/hotel_britannia_hotel_birmingham.html?ref=12507

The Campanille Birmingham is also available at £70 for the two nights, but is almost 2 miles out from New Street station. http://www.campanille.fr

Thanks. Any idea how much the breakfast is at The Britannia? Also, if anyone has a link to a booking agent that accepts switch would be great as i think that Venere site only takes credit cards.

    Hi

Premier Travel Inns do a lone female traveller thing (not so good if you're a male;)), there's 1 down Broad Street, one just off it. I've stayed at the Brittania, tbh one of the worst, very tatty, breakfast not worth bothering with, staff obviously thought the same as couldn't be bothered to serve it. the Burlington is literally off the station, but I don't know what prices are like. Looks nice though, don't know if anyone else knows more. The Copthorne is quite near to the station, just up on Paradise Circus. I would scour for deals through agents like Active on the web. I got a cheap deal on the Copthorne a while back, but can't remember exactly who it was through.

    I've been Money Tipped!
    Have you ever used Priceline???

Not the stanbdard part of the site where youlook for a room but the bid for a room section.

I usually leave it as late as I can - sometimes same morning and bid about £35 per night - they add charges which brings it up to about £40. but it is a gamble - you are basically gambling that hotels have vacancies to fill and that they will accept your price

I have a couple of emails I use as you have to wait about 36 hours between bids and sometimes after you've had one turned down you may want to raise it by a fiver.

You also get to pick the area and the star level and when your first bid fails - you can get anopther go by changing one of them so start on about 2* and work up - LOL

I've had the Crowne Plaza doing this for about £45/night for a lovely front room with great views of the city!

There are websites out there that go into all the ins and outs of using Priceline as it is HUGE in the States if u need any more help.

No, i've never even heard of price-line. Maybe you can be my secretary for the next few days and bid for me?!?!? :D

Sometimes i just hate booking online, as it seems to take forever. One site says a hotel has no vacancies then you find another site which says there are vacancies etc.
I might be sleeping on Birmingham beach at this rate :rotfl:

LOL, I've got this image now...;)

I think the Brittania was quite cheap, included brekkie - can't remember which site but I tend to use the usual, Active, Octopus etc. We spent most of the night standing outside Primark in our nighties (would suit you:D) as there was a problem with the fire alarms. Everyone thought it was for real at first (scary), thank god it wasn't as the roll call was hopeless, they gave up in the end. Think that's why the staff were so evil at breakfast!

It is extremely handy for the station, though, and maybe they've tidied up a bit.
