It is probably also illegal to display an imitation one.

I don't think it is illegal.

The offence was displaying something, which is intended to be, or which could reasonably be, mistaken for a vehicle licence.

Since there is now no such thing as a vehicle licence, it's impossible for something to be mistaken for one.

As to displaying something as a reminder, why not stick a photocopy of the receipt in the window?

Not only would it act as a reminder to the owner/keeper, it'd be a notification to police officers, traffic wardens etc., in the event the computer system had the vehicle down as unlicensed.

I can't see how the reminder would be effective?
As the disc is there for sometime, the viewer gets used to it and pays little attention to it, many times I have had the replacement disc and forgot to insert it on the 1st day of validity. Likewise the service interval, the dealer sticker at the top of the screen had little attention paid to it, I took it in about a month early for the service.

    No it won't.
    Driving your vehicle abroad

DVLA have informed the European Union that from 1 October 2014, UK registered vehicles that are travelling in the EU will not display tax discs.

But make sure it does not include any visible details which an identity thief could find useful!

The original suggestion from West Mercia police didn't say this, and their advice had to be modified to suggest that the identity information was visible only from the inside of the car. The whole idea of sticking stuff on the windscreen is still fairly stupid, anyway, since a better place would be out-of-sight in the glove compartment, or similar.

Common sense is still a fairly uncommon commodity, it seems...

what method do you use to remember to renew your TV licence? Assuming you have one.

Funny that question should come up, because I don't have one.

I don't know about the receipts for online applications, but Post office receipts don't contain any useful info.

Slightly OT, but here's a novelty idea.

(about the right size, I haven't checked because it's too cold to go out to the car).

Tax Discs are (correction, were :) ) 3" in diameter.

Just out of curiosity I checked eBay - loads of car tax disk holders still for sale....

There's still a market for them, for MOT discs (for Northern Ireland), O Licences, parking permits, etc.

I can't see the point of it really Wig. Is this something that has been endorsed/suggested by the DVLA for people who like to have tangible tax disc? If not, then I would be very reluctant to use it.

Even though I can't see the point; I also fail to see why people need to be so rude. It is possible to say you are not interested, and can't see the point, without laughing at and mocking the OP, as quite a number of posters on this thread have done.
