echo - my DH is a bit like that but if I put some smoked bacon in something I can be quite honest and say that it has meat in it:D - perhaps that would work with your hubby?
Another way of stretching meat for your carnivore partner is a stew (a little goes a long way) with loads of veg; also things like shepherds pie can stretch the meat by adding lentils, TVP etc. In fact as a veggie if you don't mind meat substitutes you could make it with just TVP and lentils and he probably wouldn't notice any difference.
I also find my DH will happily eat the Quorn chicken pieces as long as they are in a tasty sauce, his favourite is a sweet chilli sauce but a good curry sauce is also good.
If you want to cut down the amount you are spending on food as well as not cooking meat everyday would your hubby eat veg chilli or veg curry as quite often carnivores can find veggie dishes a bit bland and/or boring?
Hope these ideas might be of use.

Ohhh echo, been there before... I'm afraid I wasn't so tolerant of the attitude though... I told mine that we all had to pull together, at the time we very literally could not afford meat, let alone every day... it ended with me saying that if he wanted meat, he could fund it and cook it himself... needless to say the prospect of finding the extra money and cooking his own meal outweighed the meat issue...
He now eats pretty much anything, likes trying new food and has thanked me on more than one occasion for being stubborn and forcing him out of his rut
Edit: Why not agree to let him have meat every day, if he can plan a meal plan that suits both of you and fits within budget... that sounds like a fair compromise, yes?

I'm in
Got paid yesterday and I always take £200 out to spend on food over 4 weeks. Most of it always ends up unspent and goes in a pot upstairs which has £680 in it since starting in January.
I'm trying to lose weight, but my issue is eating at work so I've solved that by buying a 49p bag of carrots out of my personal money every 1-2 days which keeps me going all day (serial snacker here)
Just OH and I to cater for, we're fairly open-minded about food (but we won't eat mushrooms or parsnips!) so any cheap meal ideas are welcomed
We only eat together 3 or 4 times a week due to work.
We have our freezer about 75% full, mostly meat (we tend to do a 3 for £10 once a month)Our Rainbow Twins born 17th April 2016

lulu - I'd suggest having a look at https://www.agirlcalledjack.com website for cheap ideas for meals. We eat quite a few of her recipes - one we both like is the mixed bean goulash. I also like her beanburgers but DH isn't keen on them (doesn't like the texture of mashed beans!).
There are quite a lot of frugal food websites - such as thriftylesley and frugalqueen - which are well worth looking at as well.

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you are all having a lovely Tuesday
I was hoping for a NSD today but had to pop into Morrisons and get 1 item, so spent 70p.
I still have £100 to last the rest of the month. really tempted to get pizza from Tesco (my instant default when feeling too busy to cook) but want to try the Carrot, cumin and kidney bean burgers from agirlcalledjack. I have all of the ingredients but not any burger buns.
Any idea what I could make instead? I have tuna, lots of veggies, pasta and rice, a butternut squash that needs to be used, plus cheese and some potatoes. Any suggestions welcome0 -
Hi all,
Sorry but I've just seen a thread informing that rosieben (keeper of the recipe index) has passed away. Such sad news. RIP.

Why not just have the burgers with some chips and beans. I very rarely have burger in a bun!
With some of the veggies and the butternut squash how about a veggie curry with some rice.
I sometimes make tuna fishcakes with a tin of tuna and some leftover mashed potato.
