URGH!! .. any kind of mat in the bathroom is just gross.. they get wee'd on and smelly feet and hairs.. OMG the hairs!! then the hairs stick to your wet feet and they might not be yours..

The thought of a pube being stuck to me that is not my own is just hideous! .. invited pubes are in a different category and still give me the wibblies.. My OH's mum has a carpeted bathroom and bathmats.. hairs!!! *shudder*

I can only imagine what germies and bugs would delight in a warm damp mat.

I'm a brush and mop girl. I don't see how clutter in a room can possibly make a room look bigger.. it would just look messy and you could guarantee in my house it would be everywhere but around the pedestal and probably after being wee'd on!!!

    Naked floors absolutely!

Ceramic floors and tiles here and no mats round the loos either. We do use a mat outside the shower cubicle to save OH slipping as he is not too good on his feet but it spends half its life in the wash. Bare feet for me as well but I like a cold floor.
Mortgage and Debt free but need to increase savings pot.

We have a large grey ikea bath mat. Only really because when our pipe was blocked the (fake tile ) floor was pulled up and although roughly put back - its not quite as sleek as it should be. It just covers the worst part. We only have a shower room. I vaccum the bath mat and put it in the washing machine often. No toilet mat - took me a while to figure out what was being discussed! I remember the toilet dollies as a child - what an invention! Wow, a toilet cover? Really? That is something....

No, I don't understand the need for them, especially on a tiled or vinyl floor. They just make the bathroom look untidy and smaller. I don't leave the bathmat on the floor either.

i've never used pedestal mats, but i like a bathmat, i have 3 or 4 used in rotation, they get put through the washing machine regularly.
  • I own one, but haven't used it in a long time. It just gets covered in pee! I can see why it would be useful if you have carpet or other difficult-to-clean flooring, but with laminate or tiles it just gets in the way, looks untidy and creates extra washing.

I do use a bath mat though and it stays on the floor, mostly so my feet don't get too cold on the tiles when I don't have slippers on...

  • Thanks for all the replies. It is definitely easier not to have one if you don't have a carpet.

Pedestal mat lover here! 2 girls and 1 boy who all sit down ( bless my OH) so Iit's just used as a foot warmer. The bath mat is only down when we are in the bath or shower and is then hung on the radiator airer to dry.

Unfortunately, mine was 52 years old when I first met him, so a tad late for retraining, methinks.
That said, he's not really a splasher, (unless he's been to the beer festival) just a depositer of bootprints when he comes in from work and heads straight for the loo without stopping to remove his boots.

Fwiw, "wash bathroom mats" is one of the tasks on my weekly Flylady list.:D

Toilet roll dollies..... nope, can't see a reason for those; the spare loo rolls live in their original packaging, under the bathroom waste bin.

Ches I used to be able to tolerate walking on cold floors, but since my lupus has progressed, along with the accompanying Raynaud's syndrome, I can't anymore.:(

We have a set of mats, but we removed them for cleaning after we had the entire bathroom tiled, and you are right, the bathroom looks smaller and old fashioned with them in place. It is also a lot easier to clean, and more hygienic without them IMO.
I just put an old towel on the floor by the bath when I am having a shower, then wipe everything down and chuck the towel in the wash.

In the distant past I have used pedestal mats both on toilet and sink plus a matching bath mat. I always found when I opened the door it would catch on the bath mat and rumple it up. Now I use a towel for a bath mat and nothing for toilet or sink. When an old friend comes to stay I chuck an old folded up towel on the floor in front of the toilet as he tends to dribble. :rotfl:
