"never met a single parent yet who hadn't found some way to screw money out of the working population."
Well excuse me Mr Tar everyone with the same brush!! I was a single parent with three children, who received not one penny from their father for either myself or my children. I worked damned hard at two jobs to keep the roof over our heads and food on the table. How dare you assume that every single parent is a scrounger!0 -
This has been an entertaining 'read'.
Views from people with no children, clueless.
Views from parents with children, demonstrating precious little empathy, & I expect they kid themselves their children never behaved badly even once (yeah, right).
Roll on the former actually having some children & discovering the challenges that go with parenthood, & the latter being reminded of those challenges if/when grandchildren come along.
Did OP actually confirm she had NEVER been a single parent herself? (Assume a 'she'.)Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
So you are not claiming the Child Benefit of £1770 per annum that you could claim? I'm so pleased. I wish more parents were self reliant, and didn't expect me to contribute to the cost of their children!
Tax paying parents, like the poster you are moaning at, are simply getting their own money back, not yours.0 -
I don't have children and will definitely not be having any in the future.SevenOfNine wrote: »This has been an entertaining 'read'.

However, even though I've been on flights where kids have screamed, I've not agreed with the OP simply because he comes across as incredibly judgemental.
I agree he is clueless though.

Taking a 2 year old on a medium or long haul flight is a selfish thing to do, it is not only horrible for other passengers but also for the child.0

By paying child benefits out of public funds, the government needs to raise more in taxation than it otherwise would. So as someone who doesn't have children, I am subsidising those who do and who claim benefits for them.
Simple economics.
Edit: And if you read my posts, I'm not moaning at meer53. On the contrary, I have commended them for being self reliant and not drawing child benefit. I wish more parents would do the same.0 -

I took a 3 month old baby & a 2 year old on a long haul flight to Singapore. Baby slept the whole flight & toddler as good as gold (very lucky for me on both counts, certainly not down to any parental skill on my part). Wasn't 'horrible' for anyone.
How is any parent to know in advance how their child is going to behave? What age is acceptable for you to allow a parent to leave the country by plane? You've assumed every parent & child on a flight is making an optional trip off on holiday, they aren't!
As I said, either clueless or lacking empathy.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0 -
Quite a judgemental post OP.0

I could see it as a commercial winner on long haul flights. I would pay a premium if a child free flight was guaranteed.
Bit like never going to pubs that say they are child friendly.
Unfortunately the screaming darlings seem to be creeping back into previously child free pubs thanks to their parents moaning of "discrimination" hence them losing my custom instead. Nothing worse than a squarking kid in a pub.
Would delight in sprog free flightsSpelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -

In these days of far flung families it's sometimes necessary to take little ones on flights.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0
