We are going again in a few weeks, but this time travelling first class....with all five children....sorry :D

And why not, if you can afford it? :)

It puzzles me that people tend to assume children don't travel in business or first class - they do! Like all children. some are better behaved than others. And like all parents, some are more proactive with their children.......

Children used to be taught to partition their behaviour and that skill lasted through adulthood. There was time to run around excitedly and time to be quiet. Now it's all gone to pot and everyone just does whatever they like, on a plane, in the theatre or cinema, wherever. Is that progress? Are we happier?

I disagree. The majority of children are well behaved and taught how to behave. The ones that don't are in the minority. I've been on many planes, to the theatre and cinema many times and never been bothered by children.

I've been bothered by adults on flights, mainly the ones who try to drink their bodyweight in alcohol at 6am.
  • Some of the worst flights I have ever taken were so bad because of adult behaviour, not children.
Yes, I have had screaming children or children banging seats but I will put up with that over a drunk adult male throwing his weight around and deciding to try and opening the door.

Drunk passengers are frightening. Screaming kids pose no dangers whatsoever. So put up with it and be careful what you wish for.

    Me too.
But I do agree with this:

For me, the worst places are pubs (typically Wetherspoons) and supermarkets.

Why parents think it's OK for kids to be running round a busy pub when staff are walking round with meals and customers are walking round with drinks beats me. smiley-confused013.gif

    And kids running round supermarkets?
    Recipe for disaster.
I've caught more than one little !!!!!! with my trolley as they tear around the aisles uncontrollably.

And yesterday, one little brat swinging on her Mother's trolley (chatting on the phone - no surprise there then smiley-rolleyes010.gif) caught my cream coat with her mucky wellies.

For the record, all my posts on this thread have been in total opposition to the sentiments expressed by the OP.
  • Bad behaviour is endemic in this country, and is seen a perfectly acceptable by a vocal minority, who are probably responsible for much of it. The silent majority, as ever, just put up with it, whilst gritting their teeth and despising the perpetrators.

Think for a moment and decide from your actions, where you are.

It's actually 7 first class tickets with Dad as well, and I'm not paying, my mother is lol....never in my wildest dreams would I be able to afford that luxury! Mum normally pays for my flights, as she is of the opinion that she re-located over there, therefore she should pay for my tickets...who am I to say no? Lol
She has a decent job so she can afford it :rotfl: plus she misses her grandchildren. I can't work due to disability and hubby is a nurse so we are on a low wage. The reason for travelling FC is again due to my disability, the last two times we have flown over there have set me into so much pain its not been worth it.

    Safe, quiet fllights to everyone!

You're SO going to get flamed for that. :-)

I agree with you, though. People lambasted the OP for mentioning "single mothers", and whilst it is a gross generalisation, we all know the type; poorly educated scum who pump out babies as a means to fund their cider and fags lifestyle. At the other end of the scale are the "yummy" mummies who seem to think that reasoning with an errant three years will work - "please timmy, don't do that"... great.
Somewhere in the middle we have the good people - those who work to provide for their families, and instill a sense of discipline and self control in their children. Perhaps it's this group who are most in decline?
