Time for adult only flights

Tomton - I know that the practically moving passengers is difficult, which is why I think fines should be more imposale or something similar. Wouldn't it be great if planes had some sort of 'naughty pen'?
Holly - I think it was more him making people jump that caused the distress. Someone suddenly shouting 'get off of me!' right next to you, that sort of thing.0 -

No, putting all the disruptive passengers together in an enclosed space on a plane would be a really stupid idea!0 -

So if there is a disruptive passenger in first or business class & there is a spare seat in economy, do you think it fair that some poor innocent should have that passenger- who would probably be even more disruptive after being down graded- plonked down next to them?0 -
Clearly families contribute more per booking than single people. That's just stating the bleedin' obvious. But the airlines are interested in filling planes and maximising revenue. A plane full of adults generates more revenue than a plane full of families with children, as many of the children will be using seats but paying a lower fare.
.
You don't fly with children do you ?
Scheduled flight child discounts are as good as non existent nowadays (and charters will have even less interest in your ideal)
Revenuewise families per head spend tends to be more than single adults -presumably BoB food and those dreadful pilot teddies.
I tend to fly several times a year- a mix of short haul and transatlantic and I've never had a flight ruined by a disruptive child- unfortunately the same can't be said of adults.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -
Tomton - I was more joking about the naughty step!
Polly - no I would not expect Economy passengers to put up with them either. I would expect for cabin crew to give a warning for them to correct their behaviour and if they continue they face a fine or similar.
Cabin crew have to put up with a lot of unacceptable behaviour that because of the nature of the situation has to be 'tolerated' and as such they should have more powers to discipline bad passengers. Currently your behaviour has to be dangerous for airlines to take any action against you, in my opinion bad behaviour needs to be nipped in the bud before it escalates.
FWIW, I'm not talking about minor things, but things such as drunken behaviour, shouting, making an unacceptable mess etc. My cousin is cabin crew and some of the stuff she tells us about would have people chucked out of places or fined for excessive littering.0 -

It's you that's mistaken. Not everybody has to be like me but I know many that do share my views on this subject.0 -
................and as with all opposing viewpoints, there will be just as many who DON'T share your views.Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.0

The evidence would suggest there is no market for adult only flights. Otherwise an airline would be providing them. Therefore you (and those who share your views) are in a minority.0 -

I just picked a couple of flights at random on the BA web site.
LGW to MCO, out 11/11, return 18/11. Adult price £299 + fees and taxes, child price £224 + F&T. Child discount 25% (age 2 to 11).
LHR to JFK, same dates. Adult price £134 + F&T, child price £100 + F&T. Child discount again 25%.
The short haul flights I looked at charged the same price for children as for adults.
Re in flight sales, I don't have any data but I would have thought that cigarettes, spirits, perfumes, jewelry, watches etc bought by adults would have give the airline more spend per head than the sweets, games and toys bought for children (although the childrens' items probably have a bigger mark up).
Where adult only flights might work would be on busy routes with a lot of flights and a lot competition, such as London to New York. Adult only cabins could work on other routes though. Or perhaps put families with young children at the back of the plane.0 -

Would you care to provide a link to this evidence?
Scoot, Air Asia X, and Malaysian all offer child free cabins on some flights.
Richard Branson is investigating special cabins for children. See http://consumerist.com/2014/07/24/richard-branson-wants-to-introduce-kids-class-cabins-to-virgin-flights/
Do a google search on the subject, there is a lot of demand for child free zones on flights.0
